ROLE SUMMARY

Human genetics has become an increasingly important and routinely applied tool in biology-led therapeutic development, including in immune and inflammatory diseases. The value of genetic evidence is seen in all aspects of target discovery, validation, and drug development. The Systems Immunology group in the Inflammation & Immunology Research Unit at Pfizer seeks to continuously expand the scale, complexity, and translatability of genetics and multi-omics in support of our drug discovery goals.

We are seeking an experienced human geneticist to join our efforts to translate genetic findings into therapeutic hypotheses and mechanistic insight for drug development, by

  • Identifying and validating therapeutic targets with genetic evidence;

  • Identifying genetic predictors and biomarkers of disease risk, disease state, heterogeneity, and therapeutic response; and,

  • Elucidating the functional consequences of genetic variants using disease-relevant molecular and cellular models.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct genetic analyses to identify and interpret genetic drivers of diseases and phenotypes, using established analytical approaches and computational tools. Devise or modify analytical methods where appropriate.

  • Interact with multidisciplinary project teams as the genetics subject-matter expert; devise genetic solutions and apply findings to answer questions in the drug development process.

  • Work closely with colleagues in Systems Immunology and the Pfizer Integrative Biology community to establish and apply computational genetics tools; and to bridge genetics with multi-omics and functional genomics, to solve drug discovery challenges.

  • Participate and/or lead in external public and/private collaborations and consortia.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD. or MD/PhD with with thesis research in Genetics, Genomics, Immunology, Biology, Statistics, or related fields.

  • 0-3 years post-graduate work experience in an academic or biopharma/biotech setting.

  • Expertise in computational population and medical genetics approaches including association analyses, Mendelian randomization, fine-mapping, and genetic architecture of complex traits, etc.

  • Experience in following up on genetics findings to explore functional consequences of genetic variants by integrating human genetics with multi-omics data types including transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenetics, as well as functional genomics.

  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in publications.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as R or python.

  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation of computational research approaches and results to multidisciplinary teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training or in-depth research experience in human biology, immunology, physiology and/or medicine.

  • Working knowledge in the pathophysiology and/or genetic pathoetiology of autoimmune & inflammatory diseases.

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting and familiarity with the drug discovery process.
