Position Summary:

The Senior Director (SD), Strategic Contracting acts as the primary senior leader for Market Access, Commercial and Government contracting operations. This includes contract strategy development, communication, execution & assessment for all current CSL products as well as pipeline assets, working closely with HCS personnel, finance, operations & marketing to support the achievement of annual brand performance objectives.   This includes the management of internal processes such as the Contract Review Committee, education of key internal stakeholders on appropriate communication and governance for both innovative & simple contracting strategies & related market access analytics across all channel segments.   Further efforts will include collaboration with HCS Market Access, finance & legal teams to conceptualize potential contracting structures such as Value Based Agreements for our existing and future portfolio. The SD will have extensive experience & a successful history in strategically developing & evaluating contracting terms with commercial & government payors as well as trade / channel partners.   Leadership will also be required in the areas of contract membership management, customer inventory management, pricing communications & systems to support contract analytics platforms, such as Insights360.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the contracting expert, lead cross-functional collaboration, and oversee implementation of all contracting strategies, including analyzing GTN and ROI impacts and the execution of rebates, chargebacks, etc. for all US channels to optimize product performance.  Key customers include; Group Purchasing Organizations, Specialty Pharmacies, Commercial payors & PBMs, Distributors & Integrated Delivery Networks.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the team to support all contracting and analytics responsibilities.  This includes annual Specialty Pharmacy performance agreements, distributor agreements, payor / PBM contracts & ongoing channel contracting activity.
  • Build & educate internal stakeholders on a governance framework to evaluate potential contracting opportunities to facilitate contract approval.
  • Be knowledgeable of customer requirements & align CSL Behring’s financial contract arrangements with customer deliverables & capabilities.
  • Establish strategic contracting options (simple & innovative) to optimize the profitability of individual brands and the portfolio across all channels.
  • Develop private & public payor & trade contracting strategies working closely with HCS Market Access colleagues as well as legal, finance, operations, marketing & the Corporate Account Management teams.  Ensure that strategies are integrated into & aligned with brand strategies and objectives.
  • Lead analytics to examine the profitability of contracts across channels, including the development of dashboards, KPIs & reports for the North American Leadership Team.
  • Work cross-functionally to implement contracting strategies that facilitate appropriate product access aligned to product performance objectives for all channels.
  • Lead the development & administration of all contractual rebates & fees; ensure reporting mechanisms accurately reflect compliance with contractual terms, conditions, & obligations.
  • Participate in the Pricing Committee reviews ensuring that response to account proposals & proactive channel contracting initiatives are aligned across the workgroup with clear recommendations for execution with appropriate financial analysis.
  • Leads partnership with all outside consultants/vendors as it relates to Contracting & Analytics.
  • Work with finance, legal. operations & marketing teams to execute pricing & relevant reporting for all channels in the US in compliance with government regulations.
  • Support the development & maintenance of internal policies & procedures to ensure compliant operations.
  • Complete all company & job-related training as assigned within the required timeline.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in the biotech industry, preferably including experience with parenteral medicines
  • 5+ years of experience creating contracting processes & policies, innovative contracting strategies, market channel net pricing policies, market access analytics (e.g. Gross to Net, rebates, chargebacks, etc.), and profitability for all US channels
  • Strong experience working with multidisciplinary personnel, both internally & externally
  • Ability to analyze, communicate & execute price & contracting strategies according to brand/portfolio objectives
  • Strong project management, analytical thinking, and financial modeling skills
  • Proven record of success in working with cross-functional teams; demonstrated ability to successfully educate and influence multiple levels of an organization
  • Strong attention to detail combined with a keen ability to recognize issues in the context of higher-level policies and regulations
  • Strong leadership, planning and organization, analytics, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; focus on the delivery of results
  • Strong interpersonal and peer leadership skills to influence without authority; ability to work cross-functionally in a highly dynamic environment with a high sense of urgency
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who functions well both independently and within a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional, proactive demeanor
  • Ability to travel as necessary (<10%)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Model N, SAP, Tableau, Qliksense, advanced skills in Excel required
