SUMMARY:  The Program and Portfolio Management (PPM) Vice President is responsible for the leadership and direction of the PPM functions.  This function plays a key role in optimizing the effectiveness of the strategic program teams (SPT’s) and Regeneron’s product pipeline. This individual will lead the group that integrates the entire development portfolio of post-research assets through to end of life cycle to enable efficient portfolio decision making by executive leadership. The role will have direct oversight of the groups that provide 1) project management and timeline support to every asset team , 2) support the governance model of the Global Development organization, 3)  Project management support outside of the SPT’s, including managing strategic initiatives / projects across Global Development and 4) portfolio level planning, external development partnership oversight, and liaison for portfolio level communications.  The role will interface with senior management across Research, Development, Manufacturing and Commercial to ensure project management excellence to drive pipeline execution & portfolio value. This role will partner with Therapeutic Heads, Functional leaders and Global Program Heads to deliver accurate data re: scope, cost, timelines, and quality of integrated development plans for each asset in development.  The candidate will also be responsible for influencing asset and portfolio level decisions through identification of interdependencies and downstream implications of drug development decisions.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and strategic vision for all PPM groups, supporting global, cross-functional Strategic Program Teams (SPT’s) for all clinical assets. Partners with Global Program Heads (GPH’s) and key functional leaders to ensure a smooth transition of asset development across the continuum from Discovery, Development, and Commercial. 

  • Identify and champion Project Management, Portfolio and Asset Development best practices, including the use of dashboards, templates, tools, and processes to drive efficiency, alignment, decision making, and communication - all leading to effective product planning and execution.

  • Leverage project and organizational knowledge, leadership, and facilitation skills to enable Program and Portfolio Management Teams to drive alignment, collaboration, and accountability within the SPTs and across Corporate functions resulting in achievement of company and program goals.

  • Oversee management and facilitation of governance committees for the development portfolio; regularly review and as needed, partner with sr. leaders to optimize governance processes.

  • Drive portfolio level program planning, including cross-functional resource planning, financial, and capacity assessments; contribute to long-range and budgetary planning.

  • Ensure effective communication of project and portfolio planning information to the broader organization in partnership with corporate communications.

  • Ensure the development and maintenance of project plans, timelines, integrated development plans and target product profiles in collaboration with GPH’s and cross-functional members of teams.

  • Lead program and portfolio communication and reporting in partnership with executives and functional leaders, this includes developing and delivering monthly dashboards and program and portfolio reviews to the Executive Team, key business partners, and the Board of Directors.  This covers pipeline content, portfolio metrics, development and portfolio reporting across all Therapeutic Areas (TA’s).

  • Ensure SPT operational excellence, including ensuring optimal meeting structure, conduct and outputs, decision making, risk assessment and risk management. Implement lessons-learned processes to provide continuous improvement on process, templates, and alignment with REGN’s company culture. 

  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders within and outside of Regeneron (functional/GPH’s, peers, vendors, pharma industry community, and external opinion leaders).

  • Provide information to support portfolio decision making aligned with decisions on progression of individual assets.

  • Provide oversight and project management support for Global Development Strategic Initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • 12-15+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience and a minimum of eight years in program, portfolio and/or alliance management

  • BA/BS in business, marketing, finance, science/technology, or related field

  • Advanced Degree strongly preferred but not required.  MS/PhD or MBA with experience working within a science-based organization /function, or in Physical, or Life Sciences

Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of research and development and thorough understanding of the tasks required in all stages

of drug development

  • A strong understanding of the people, processes and infrastructure involved in managing across the drug

development lifecycle, including prior experience in program, portfolio and project management experience

across pre-clinical, clinical, CMC, quality, regulatory affairs, and commercial functions

  • Comprehensive knowledge of project planning methods and techniques

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and options with a strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong communicator and influencer within all levels of the organization, including executive leadership. Knows what information and discussions are needed to help drive

decisions and solve issues.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, including quantitative and qualitative assessment skills and demonstrated critical

thinking skills

  • Ability to distill complex issues and ideas down to simple comprehensible terms and issue resolution

  • Exceptional ability to lead people and multiple functional groups, identify and develop talent, and delegate

effectively

  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills

  • Strong leadership and team building skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage alliances with corporate partners needed
