What You Will Achieve

Working with Pfizer’s dynamic engineering team, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the operational aspects of ongoing engineering projects, serving as a liaison between project engineers and planning, project team, and line management. You will review project status, budgets, schedules and preparing status reports. Your organizational and problem solving skills will help in assessing project issues and developing resolutions in order to meet productivity, quality and client satisfactions goals.

As a Manager, Capital Portfolio, you will provide guidance to operational teams for managing projects. You will be proactive in providing areas of improvement for products, processes or services. Through your comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts and theories of the discipline, you will work towards advancing new concepts and methodologies. You will be able to take a leadership role to facilitate agreements between teams and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

How You Will Achieve It

Oversees and manages the functional aspects of the Respective Capital Portfolio and serves as liaison between project engineers, project teams, and Engineering management. Accountable for all projects within the respective portfolio for adherence to scope, schedule, and budgets. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Performs conceptual development and initiation of new capital project requests

  • Manages Project Managers and Process Engineers within respective Capital Portfolio

  • Responsible for up to 30 capital projects ranging in value from $10MM – 50MM in annual spend

  • Provides coaching and mentoring for the lessor experienced engineers to assist in their development in managing capital projects

  • Responsible for Scope, Budget and Schedule for all CapEx projects within respective portfolio

  • Ensure capital investments use the best technology, have the best outcomes for our business, and align with contemporary standards.

  • Develop capital project conceptual designs, preliminary budgets and schedules required for CPA development

  • Performs executive reviews to gain leadership endorsement of new Capital Projects within respective Portfolio

  • Partner with Global Engineering, A&E firms, Construction Management firms, site engineering teams, and end users to ensure efficient delivery of multi-discipline projects

  • Manages and review status of ongoing projects, progress with developing new projects in accordance with the Capital Project Management Process (CPMP)

  • Establish a communication plan with project sponsors within respective CapEx portfolio

  • Ensure that projects design and execution is in accordance with:

  • The project Basis of Design, Pfizer GMP, Pfizer Specifications, The project URS and FRS, EHS Standards, Good Engineering practices, Site & Industry Reliability Initiatives


  • Must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience

  • OR an Associates degree with 8 years of experience

  • OR a Bachelors with at least 5 years of experience

  • OR Masters Degree with more than 3 years of experience,

  • OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience.

  • Industry experience in Pharmaceutical manufacturing or related field

  • Experience managing $5MM+ capital projects

  • Good working knowledge of {Current} Good Manufacturing Practices {part of GxP} and facility/equipment validation requirements

  • Strong project and process engineering skills

  • Ability to track performance against approved plans and react appropriately to unexpected outcomes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations

  • 10+ years experience managing capital projects

  • Relevant pharmaceutical experience with process equipment and facilities

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, technical capabilities


  • The position requires a very high level of resourcefulness, an ability to get things done by removing obstacles, perceiving and resolving problems, making difficult decisions with less than complete information provided, and accomplishing project and operational goals through innovative management.

  • Proper site PPE adherence including the ability to gown/ de-gown for manufacturing areas.

  • The ability to work in a Construction Project Environment.


  • Travel required for vendor selection, FAT support, & global network meetings; estimate less than 10%.

  • Off-shift work minimal; project related.

  • 2 annual shutdowns require significant site commitments beyond normal working hours
