Job Details

The General Accountant Supervisor performs one or more of the following accounting and/or payroll activities:  checks and verifies records, prepares invoices and vouchers; posts ledger and general journal entries and/or balances accounts payable and accounts receivable records. Generates reports, conducts specialized research projects and responds to inquiries as required.  May reconcile difficult accounts and is responsible for a complete and systematic set of transactions in a specific phase of accounting.

The General Accountant Supervisor performs one or more of the following accounting and/or payroll activities:  checks and verifies records, prepares invoices and vouchers; posts ledger and general journal entries and/or balances accounts payable and accounts receivable records. Generates reports, conducts specialized research projects and responds to inquiries as required.  May reconcile difficult accounts and is responsible for a complete and systematic set of transactions in a specific phase of accounting. 

Participates in the company's capex, payroll, receivables, payables and revenue recognition processes within established financial control policies and procedures.

Manage team in all accounts payable functions and responsibilities for the company local and at the Texas location.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisor

  • Trains, develops, monitors and provides feedback on team policies, procedures and accounting standards that relate to function
  • Regularly provides instruction on specific transactions as needed
  • Mediates resolutions between the Accounts Payable team and other employees/vendors when necessary
  • Supervises performance to ensure company objectives are being met
  • Provides feedback via formal/informal appraisal
  • Provides day to day tactical and logistical support for achieving department objectives
  • Supervise, coordinate, and assure internal controls are maintained
  • Communicates department and personnel expectations and initiates disciplinary action where warranted
  • Anticipates and proactively manages potential problems that affect the team, timelines, and business plan
  • Assures staff is fully trained and immediately corrects gaps or deficiencies
  • Capable of overseeing, coordinator and ensuring execution of activities and/or projects according to timelines/requirements
  • Coordinates workflow by scheduling and assigning workloads
  • Facilitates development opportunities to direct staff

Other Duties Include:

  • Manages pass through inventory and customer invoicing
  • Prepares government reporting surveys and schedules
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts
  • Analyzes changes in balance sheet accounts.
  • Journal entry review (monthly)
  • Prep Management Account Schedules preparation (monthly)
  • General Ledger Close Management (monthly)
  • Insurance Questionnaires (as needed)
  • Certificates of Insurance (as needed )
  • Property Tax Listing preparation (annual)
  • Income tax schedules preparation (annual)
  • Monitors accounts payable and payroll activities via review of transactions for validity, accuracy, and completeness
  • Responsible for vendor management in accounting system including set-up and screening denied party lists
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Adhere to all Company training schedules in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business (Accounting preferred)
  • 5+ years general accounting experience (including payroll and accounts receivable/payable)
  • Supervisor/management experience preferred
  • Able to make informed and timely decisions independently
  • Can manage multiple assignments in timely and effective manner
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues both within and outside of the department
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls and financial reporting requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Team oriented person who has excellent judgment skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, and Power Point and experience with automated accounting and payroll systems
