Lets do this. Lets change the world. Amgen Oncology Research in South San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our discovery research team. In this vital role, you will lead preclinical studies designed to advance the immuno-oncology portfolio, which includes bispecific T cell engager (BiTE) molecules, bifunctional antibodies, and small molecule therapeutics. Using a combination of in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo models, you will help discover new targets and develop the next generation of therapies for the treatment of cancer. As a Scientist, you will:

  • Conduct independent preclinical research to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets and evaluate new technologies
  • Champion programs, lead teams, and collaborate with scientists across multiple sites and functional areas to generate strategy and preclinical data to advance projects in the immuno-oncology portfolio
  • Manage direct reports to generate preclinical data that support therapeutic programs and technology development
  • Identify contract labs and academic collaborations to conduct preclinical studies, write workplans, and manage outsourced studies
  • Manage timelines and deliverables of preclinical data to advance therapeutic programs
  • Present data in internal and external settings including oral and poster presentations at scientific conferences and lead writing of preclinical manuscripts

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. with research experience in cancer biology or immunology

OR

Masters degree and 4 years of research experience in oncology or immuno-oncology

OR

Bachelors degree and 6 years of scientific experience in oncology or immuno-oncology

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in cancer biology or immunology with at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience

  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by first or senior author publications in top-tier journals and awarded grants
  • Broad and deep knowledge of cancer biology, immunology (e.g., T cell biology), and target discovery and validation
  • Experience with current molecular, cell biology, and immunology laboratory techniques such as multi-color flow cytometry, isolation and culture of primary and established cell types, PCR/Western/ELISA/MSD, and in vivo models
  • Experience managing and mentoring direct reports
  • Experience establishing or leading collaborations with academic investigators or contract research laboratories
  • Knowledgeable, highly motivated, creative, and collaborative with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple programs while working in a fast-paced environment and delivering results to meet timelines
  • Computer literacy, especially proficiency with FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
