The Role:
Moderna is seeking a Principal Research Associate based at our Norwood, MA Moderna Technology Center. The individual in this role will focus on managing analytical control strategy and activities for early development programs, working with technical and operation teams across different functions to support the development of mRNA - lipid nanoparticle (LNP) based vaccine and therapeutic products. This person will report to Analytical Program Lead and manage a wide range of analytical activities for early development programs, including management of samples, timelines, and deliverables, data mining/trending and statistical analysis generated with analytical methods for mRNA-LNP based products, protocol/reports writing and regulatory filing support. This person is expected to work in a highly collaborative, cross functional team environment, and provide expert knowledge to the development, implementation, and maintenance of analytical activities in collaboration with Analytical Development, Process Development, Production, Clinical Ops., Reg. Affairs and Quality.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Contribute as part of the Analytical Strategy Team to support the development of mRNA-LNP vaccine and therapeutic programs at early stage.

  • Work closely with colleagues within Analytical Development, Process Chemistry, Process Development, Formulation, Analytical Tech Operations, Analytical Sciences and Technology and QC teams to support Method development, process optimization, product testing and characterization, method qualification and transfer, forced degradation studies and hands-on troubleshooting.

  • Support creating, tracking, and managing technical deliverables and activities for project milestones; review data packages.

  • Monitor and communicate method lifecycle (acquisition, qualification, implementation) timelines using project management tools.

  • Demonstrate independent judgment in technique and method selection, study design, generate and contribute to data analysis, technical report writing and presenting findings to multidisciplinary teams

  • Maintain a safe laboratory work environment and be accountable for good documentation practices.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • BA: 5-8 years, MS 2-5 years of relevant industry experience in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field.

  • Proven ability to manage projects/teams of significant scope and complexity, while meeting all deliverables and timelines.

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in analytical method development, analytical control strategy as well as product characterization and analytical comparability.

  • Hand-on experience in data analysis and statistical evaluation and trending of data.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical development life cycle management

  • Experience in assessing and contributing to technical investigations.

  • Understanding US and EU regulations and ICH guidelines.

  • Experience in authoring regulatory submission documents in pharmaceutical or biotech industries

  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization and externally with CTOs, CMOs, and third parties.

  • Ability to navigate through ambiguity and rapid growth and adapt to change.

  • Previous hands-on industry experience with analytical development for nanoparticles, RNA, therapeutics, or biologics is a plus and preferred
