Job Description
Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated biologist to join our Oncology Research group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of immunotherapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of cancer patients. S/he will have opportunities for career growth through acquisition of new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently plan, execute, and interpret key experiments to support research project goals
  • Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve assay performance
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, working cross-functionally in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, delivering key data needed to inform decision-making

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
  • 5+ years of experience with BS degree or 7+ years with MS degree in a related scientific discipline. A work history demonstrating direct participation in biopharmaceutical drug discovery is highly preferred
  • A broad range of technical skills applicable to drug discovery and development
  • Experience with design or execution of in vivo tumor models to evaluate efficacy, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics
  • Technical expertise in flow cytometry and immunophenotyping of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes
  • Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques investigating immune cell function
  • Experience in developing and executing cell-based assays for evaluation of cell signaling and proliferation/survival using genetic tools and/or large or small molecule inhibitors
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with basic data analysis programs (Flow Jo, Excel, Graphpad Prism, etc.)
  • Motivation, independence, and ability to think critically and creatively to resolve problems
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and ability to integrate into a high-paced multi-disciplinary environment
