Associate Paralegal - Trademark


What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role Amgen Inc. is currently seeking an Intellectual Property Trademark Associate Paralegal to join it's in house Trademark Group. In this role, you will assist with trademark search clearance, filing, prosecution, and enforcement of Amgens global trademark portfolio, as well as with mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, domains names, copyrights, customs, and social media issues. This position works closely with the responsible in-house attorneys and department paralegal in analyzing legal issues and considering solutions, in addition to acting as a liaison with business clients, and outside counsel.

  • Manage worldwide trademark filings, including prosecution, maintenance, renewals and communicating with the business.

  • Prepare trademark applications, Madrid filings, and other trademark prosecution documents for filing at appropriate trademark offices, including gathering all necessary information.

  • Communicate with foreign associates on prosecution and enforcement matters.

  • Review and analyze trademark watch notices for potential enforcement action.

  • Instruct and manage responses to office actions, oppositions, and cancellation actions.

  • Review and prepare affidavits/declarations, powers of attorneys, and assignment documents for execution.

  • Assist attorneys in due diligence and transactional work.

  • Assist in domain name management and enforcement.

  • Work with outside counsel in customs recordation filings.

  • Maintain and docket all deadlines relating to incoming correspondence from USPTO, WIPO, foreign associates, in-house and outside counsels in Amgen's IP trademark database.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors degree


Associates degree and 4 years of intellectual property paralegal experience at a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or equivalent legal experience.


High school diploma / GED and 6 years of intellectual property paralegal experience at a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or equivalent legal experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate/bachelor degree or completion of an ABA-approved legal assistant/paralegal program or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • Minimum 4 years of intellectual property paralegal experience at a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or equivalent legal experience.

  • Experience in Madrid filings

  • Experience in Customs recordations

  • Experience in Copyrights

  • Experience in Domain Management

  • Motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, such as oral and written communication skills.

  • Pharmaceutical or biotech experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of electronic filing with the USPTO and WIPO.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, DocuSign and Adobe Professional skills.

  • Strong knowledge of electronic document management systems.

  • Familiarity with domestic and foreign trademark practice and procedures.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, competing timelines, and to work independently.

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to timely respond to deadlines.

  • Attention to detail a must.
