Automation/Devops Software Engineer

What you will do

In this vital role within Operations Digital Technology and Innovation (Ops DTI) group that supports Process Development, you will you work alongside Solution Architects, Technical Architects, and Business Analysts to design, develop, and deploy solutions all while learning and growing your skill set.

About the Team:

The Process Simplification and Automation team is part of the Digital technology and Innovation organization at Amgen that is focused on helping improve staff experience, unlock productivity and improving quality leveraging technology to identify inefficient processes, foster simplification of processes and help automate these revised processes to unlock value. This is a highly visible team with a remit to help shape the future pipeline of Amgen products by unlocking value.

Key job responsibilities:

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software.

  • Drive efforts to design, build, and develop rapid Proof-of-Concept (POC) automated solutions and services. Quickly and iteratively prove or disprove the concepts being considered.

  • Leads process improvementand workflow automation initiatives

  • Lead development on high profile and complex automation projects to ensure quality and timely delivery of projects by working closely with the cross functional team members

  • Hands on development using multiple automation technologies with ability to build solutions that leverage ML/AI and leveraging cognitive solutions to build smart automations.

  • Lead automation efforts from design, build, and test of solution and build them to scale.

  • Work with process subject matter experts (SMEs) and Architects on process design that will be automated

  • Work closely with other teams and Process Engineers to identify, stop, simplify business process waste to codify into automated solutions and platforms.

  • Build re-useable component that can expedite process to delivery

  • Work closely with machine learning engineers to develop production code and deliver end-to-end solutions

  • Transform ambiguous business questions into measurable and impactful projects

A day in the life:

  • You are leading from the front engaging with business functions across the company hand in hand with the Automation architects

  • Build complex automations that solve business problems within the company spanning multiple technologies

  • Build a lot of POC demos to show the technical feasibility and the value to business users

  • Work in a team of automation engineers of internal staff and suppliers to drive these outcomes

  • Translate process automation opportunities into technical designs that can be automated by engineers such as yourself.

  • Build automations using multiple technologies like RPA, Cognitive, Cloud native, python etc. and deliver value to end users within the company

  • Working with multiple cultures and being able to influence outcomes

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree
OR
Masters degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience
OR
Bachelors degree and 5 years of Information Systems experience
OR
Associates degree and 10 years ofInformation Systems experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years ofInformation Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, stakeholders, and management. Demonstrate strong collaboration across all levels of the organization. Assertive and confident in raising action points with senior individuals with excellent spoken and written communication.

  • 2+ years experience working with automation and process intelligence software (e.g., Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, UiPath, Celonis etc.). Knowledge of other Intelligent Automation platforms and technologies such as Machine Learning, Citizen Development, Business process Management.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with scientific domain expertise to communicate optimally with various partners within the organization

  • Experience working with Agile development methodologies (such as Sprint and Scrum) and DevOps

  • Expertise in programming/scripting languages, including but not limited to: Java, C, C++, Swift/Objective C, Python, Go, C#, JavaScript, Visual basic etc.

  • Experience doing full stack development including infrastructure cloud services (Storage, VMs, Network, etc.) as well as application and user experience in a continuous CI/CD pipeline environment

  • Experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and developing micro-services and APIs

  • 3 - 5 years experience designing, developing, deploying, and operating end to end automated solutions/platforms across SaaS, Cloud and On-prem

  • Experience in building machine learning, OCR and NLP solutions

  • Strong proficiency in Python or R would be a plus

  • Some experience building a variety of machine learning models would be preferred

  • Experience writing SQL queries, mining large and imbalanced datasets, using data visualization tools

  • Ability to translate complex data sets and research into simple business recommendations

  • Experience in SQL and database concepts to write queries to build automations

  • Basic knowledge of leading automation software platforms (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere, BluePrism, PowerAutomate etc.) would be a plus

  • Experience with AWS Services like EC2, S3, Redshift/Spectrum, Glue, Athena, RDS, Lambda, and API gateway would be a plus
