ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting into the overall U.S. Commercial leader, the Sr. Director of U.S. Commercial Operations is responsible for ensuring overall consistent delivery of sales operations services and solutions for the Santen business. This will include business items related to, but not limited to: sales forecasting and targeting, data management, vendor evaluation and management, fleet, CRM, incentive compensation, and ecommerce.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY DELIVERABLES:

As a strategic thought partner to the Commercial Business, contributes to the development of the strategic plan/direction ensuring alignment with brand strategy. Leads and evolves the Commercial Operations function by establishing a vision and strategy for the department focusing on:

  • Implementing a clear framework of goals and tactics that result in a first-in-class Commercial Operations organization
  • Establishing and maintaining the analytic and operational infrastructure and processes for supporting the U. S. Commercial organization
  • Developing a high performing and diverse team by attracting, selecting, developing and retaining talented individuals positioned to meet Santen’s growth strategy
  • Judicious fiscal planning predicated on product(s) lifecycle phases
  • Utilizing a data driven approach to provide insights to the Commercial Leadership Team in support of current business and future opportunities
  • Partners with Marketing in developing metrics surrounding promotional activities and creates timely reports that provide insight into the effectiveness of promotional response analyses by brand and customer segments/channels
  • Partners with Sales Training department to develop strategy and plan for training and development, along with ensuring effective deliver of same
  • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders (Sales VP, Marketing, Business Operations, Patient Services, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Executive Leadership) to achieve department and company objectives
  • Supports Sales Leadership in development of field communications, special programs such as incentives, and organization of field sales Plan of Action and National Sales Meetings
  • Deliver projects on time, meeting budgets and quality standards

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree is required. M.S degree is preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience leading a commercial operations function within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company. Eyecare therapeutic area experience (ophthalmology/optometry) is desired
  • Experience using data to support business decisions and drive process improvement and optimization
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex situation and processes and effectively integrating and synthesizing the data to form a complete cohesive picture
  • Proven teamwork and collaboration skills with a demonstrated track record leading highly matrixed, cross-functional work teams comprised of high-level managers and executives
  • Analyzes and uses qualitative and quantitative data and incorporates understanding into decision criteria.
  • Able to effectively manage competing priorities with strong sense of urgency
  • Creative / innovative thinker with an understanding of legal / regulatory environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Business Tools: Successfully able to leverage various business resources including, but not limited video meetings, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and MS Teams

TRAVEL: Occasional travel for industry conferences and off-site company meetings.
