Job Details

We are seeking an Scientist, Computational Genomics that can help with the analysis and interpretation of millions of genotyped and sequenced humans, with a specific focus on ensuring we create and deploy premier software tools and pipelines that can operate on large-scale genetic and multi-omics datasets. For the Regeneron Genetics Center to generate the knowledge that will enable us to deliver better medicines to the patients who need them, we need to enable many scientists to productively generate and interact with results derived from 1,000,000s of sequenced individuals.

A typical day may include:

  • Create novel, optimized, production-level pipelines for performing many aspects of multi-omics data processing and analysis.
  • Build tools and run computational NGS data analyses; including large scale genome-wide association testing and transcriptomics data analysis.
  • Maintain expertise in innovative data science and computational genomics methods, including benchmarking and testing these methods in a cloud-based (AWS, DNAnexus) environment.
  • Perform quality control analyses on new large-scale genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and phenotypic datasets, and providing summaries and visualizations of these steps.
  • Develop scalable, portable, unit testable code, and performing code review for efficiency and correctness.

This role could be for you if you:

  • Have a strong background in a variety of areas spanning bioinformatics, computer science, and genomics
  • Have a consistent record of implementing scalable software tools and workflows and in a cloud-based computing environment (AWS, DNAnexus, GCP)
  • Are skilled at working on a Linux/UNIX command line and can develop code in a high-level programming language like Python or C++
  • Have experience using a workflow language (e.g WDL, CWL, Nextflow) and software containerization (Docker)
  • Are familiar with many standard bioinformatics tools (e.g. PLINK2, HTSlib, tabix, VCFtools, Picard) and data formats (e.g. VCF, BED, BGEN)
  • Enjoy generating novel visualizations of datasets and QC metrics using R/ggplot2 or Pandas/matplotlib.
  • Have a familiarity with current standard methodologies and state-of-the art techniques across many areas of NGS data analysis, from variant calling to genetic association testing.
  • Can effectively communicate methods and present code to a variety of technical audiences.
  • Enjoy working in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues.

To be considered for this role, you must at least have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with minimum 4 years relevant experience in Biotechnology or Computational Biology. A doctorate degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field is preferred. Expertise in designing and implementing tools and pipelines that are well documented. Experience using many innovative bioinformatics tools and data formats. You should have experience contributing to the development of open-source bioinformatics tools or pipelines using standard methodologies in version control. Some previous experience with small web application development, preferred.
