Senior Scientist – Solid State

Job Description

The senior research scientist will report directly to the Head of US Research and Development. The successful candidate will handle all areas of solid-state research applied to API with a strong emphasis on early formulation development.  The candidate will develop experimental designs directly as well as provide technical consultation. The candidate must actively communicate across multiple functional areas including process chemistry, analytical chemistry and physical chemistry. The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:

1. Ph.D. or MS in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or related field.

2. Industry experience: 0-3 years for scientists with a Ph.D. degree, 3-5 years for MSc.

3. A background in topics including thermodynamics, polymorphism, crystallization, API, and formulation process development.

4. Experience with polymorph screening, solid phase characterization, and selection, and small scale crystallization.

5. Experience with formulation strategies for PK, GLP Tox, and FIH studies.

6. Display a high level of innovation and practical ingenuity.

7. Always diligent in scientific rigor displaying a high-level of integrity.

8. Project leadership and strong interpersonal skills are required to effectively collaborate with team members and clients and set and manage expectations.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Crystal form screening, scale-up, full characterization, and evaluation.

2. XRPD, DSC, TGA, PLM, KF, GC, HPLC use, and data interpretation.

3. Single crystal growth and structure determination.

4. HPLC method development.

5. Supervises or coaches lower-level scientists.

6. Able to multitask and maintain multiple projects at one time.
