Job Description
The Oncology Research department at Gilead Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our in vivo pharmacology team. The successful candidate will contribute to the discovery, research and development of novel oncology therapeutics in pre-clinical models. Hands on experience and substantiated knowledge of mouse oncology models is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and communicating in vivo pharmacology data to support the progression of oncology research programs.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Act as pharmacology representative for multiple oncology programs and independently plan, design, execute, analyze and interpret key in vivo studies (efficacy, PK/PD) to support the Oncology pipeline
  • Establish and characterize pre-clinical mouse models to demonstrate in vivo efficacy and proof of concept for oncology programs
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally with other departments, interface with cross-functional project team members, and participate/present at project team meetings and cross-departmental team meetings
  • Present research findings and recommendations to project teams
  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, accurate, timely record keeping and preparation of study reports
  • May manage Research Associates or direct members of project teams in the initiation and execution of laboratory experiments


Qualifications & prior experience
  • Extensive academic or industry research experience (15+ years post BS or PhD with 0-2 years of experience) in cancer immunology or related field with record of achievements (publications, patents)
  • Knowledge of pharmacology as applied to oncology
  • Direct experience with mouse models of cancer and cancer immunotherapy
  • Proficiency with various mouse handling techniques including dosing (IV, PO, subcutaneous, IP), tumor inoculation/measurements, in life and terminal blood collection, collection and handling of tissues during necropsy and processing for ex vivo analysis
  • Experience with sterile tissue culture, and molecular and basic cellular biology techniques is required
  • Good understanding of flow cytometry and multi-parametric analysis is desirable
  • Experience with in vivo imaging is desired
  • Computer literacy, especially proficiency with GraphPad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • The ability to work independently on day to day responsibilities and research goals
  • Experience managing direct reports is desired
