Kezar Life Sciences (NASDAQ: KZR), a clinical-stage biotechnology sciences company located in South San Francisco, is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead / Principal Scientist, Biomarker, to join our research group and lead our Translational Science function. This position will report to the Vice President, Biology. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement at a fast-growing company.

Kezar is focused on small molecule drug discovery and development to target immune-mediated diseases and cancer. Kezar’s lead product candidate, KZR-616, a selective inhibitor of the immunoproteasome, is being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to treat severe autoimmune diseases. KZR-261, Kezar’s first oncology candidate targeting the protein secretion pathway via the Sec61 translocon, is now being studied in a Phase 1 clinical trial in several oncology indications.


RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and analyzing the results of exploratory biomarker studies spanning all Kezar’s clinical trials. This includes genomics, transcriptomics, circulating cell phenotyping, and plasma protein analysis. To accomplish this, they will evaluate, initiate, and manage collaborations and communications with external vendors / CROs. Kezar is equipped with state-of-the-art lab facilities, and this position will involve laboratory work, including sample analysis, assay development, and mechanism of action studies. This position will work closely with several internal teams, including discovery research, bioinformatics, clinical development, clinical operations, biometrics, and clinical data management. They will integrate and present the results of all these efforts to diverse internal and external audiences and drive the publication of these results at medical conferences and biomedical journals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related area with 5+ years relevant post-doctoral experience or Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with immunological techniques, primary cell isolation, and flow cytometry required
  • Familiarity with CRO management is required
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism) is required
  • Industry experience is highly desired
  • Understanding of cancer genomics and modern cancer diagnostic methods (gene expression, RNAseq, etc..) is desired
  • Experience with companion diagnostics is a plus
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, communication and presentation skills are necessary
  • Benchwork required
