Location: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA

The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.

The Laboratory Animal Sciences Program (LASP) staffs and operates animal research facilities serving the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and its government sponsor, the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  Collectively, the AAALAC-accredited LASP-Bethesda (5 facilities) and LASP-Frederick Programs (25 facilities) provide exceptional quality animal care for over 350,000 animals and support 224 investigators with nearly 600 active Animal Study Protocols.  In addition, LASP serves as a comprehensive resource for animal-based research for the NCI community by operating nine well-functioning, specialized research cores, including facilities for genome modification, transgenics and cryopreservation, gnotobiotics, small animal imaging, animal diagnostics, and molecular histopathology.  LASP also provides significant support to other institutes and entities, including the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and other select agencies approved by the NCI.

LASP seeks a Deputy Director experienced in laboratory-based animal research and with proven management skills to assist the LASP Director in running a large (350+ staff) program with multiple and diverse functions.  Responsibilities of the Deputy Director will be assigned by the Director based upon the successful applicant’s skill set and may include overseeing the operations of multiple core facilities, undertaking research aimed at technology and process development, or providing oversight of the LASP laboratory animal medicine programs and vivarium operations.   Work schedule may include weekend and holiday hours
