Scientist, Quantitative Biology, Infectious Disease Research

The Role:

This role is an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of Modernas Infectious Disease research team. Reporting to the Associate Director, Bacteriology, the Scientist will contribute to the advancement of mRNA encoded therapeutics. The Scientist will be an innovative and collaborative computational biologist with broad skills in the area of genomics. The position is hybrid on-site and remote. In collaboration with experimental scientists, he/she/they will develop and apply computational methods to analyze large-scale datasets to discover vaccine candidates.

Heres What Youll Do:

• Create and implement custom bioinformatics data pipelines to analyze transcriptome or meta-transcriptome data

• Integrative analysis of internal data with public datasets

• Mine public datasets to perform comparative genomics analysis of different pathogenic strains to generate novel hypothesis

• Facilitate functional genomics efforts

• Facilitate in silico predictions of pathogen epitopes recognized by B and T cells

• Prior microbiology experience is beneficial

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

• A Ph.D. or equivalent experience (MS/BS + 3-5 years of experience) in Computational Biology or another relevant field.

• Strong understanding of NGS techniques, microbial transcriptome analysis, metagenomics

• Experience in common bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis and public databases

• Ability to work collaboratively

• Strong coding skills using Python, R

• Experience with high performance computing, preferably on public clouds (i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure)

• Proven track record of high impact publications and presentations in the field of infectious diseases or immunology.

• The ability to work in a cross-functional work environment is critical; strong leadership skills and independence skills are expected.

• Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills; ability to influence and collaborate in a team environment.

• Candidate will be curious in exploring new paths for drug discovery, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas. Will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes.
