About Lab Operations Senior Associate – South San Francisco, CA

Our Alloy San Francisco site is looking for a Lab Operations Senior Associate to join our team in South San Francisco, CA. The position will report directly to our site Head of Operations to support the team by maintaining premium equipment, facilities, and safety standards. You will work with our site leadership to improve our current systems using the very latest technologies and equipment. In addition, you will work with our Chief Technology Officer to design and conduct key experiments in the development of novel antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) technologies. The role requires a team player who is comfortable in an all-hands-on-deck startup environment as Alloy builds out its San Francisco Research Site.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, and monitoring policies that maintain lab organization and efficiency
  • Responsible for laboratory supplies inventory including monitoring stock, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, receiving shipments, and negotiating quotes
  • Overseeing and maintaining a safe and healthy laboratory workspace and performing employee safety training
  • Maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, executing service contracts, and planning optimal equipment locations
  • Providing office management support and acting as the key contact for all facility management needs
  • Supporting core lab activities and operations including CO2, liquid nitrogen, etc.
  • Conducting cell-based assays and running various biochemical, molecular, and cellular assays such as RNA extractions, real time qPCR, and ELISA (25% of the role)
  • Being generous when others are needy, greedy, or fearful

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in a relevant scientific field (Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, etc.)
  • Solid hands-on experience with commonly used techniques in cell, molecular biology, and biochemistry
  • A highly organized individual with demonstrated capabilities in lab management
  • Experience with enforcing and understanding biosafety programs
  • Experience managing procurement systems and PO processes
  • Willingness to come in off-hours to manage lab emergencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in a cross-functional lab setting
  • Must have a strong internal drive to work hard when no one is watching
