Bioinformatics Scientist

PacBio's Computational Biology group helps to catalyze scientific discovery and increase the clinical impact of our sequencing assays, allowing scientists to characterize genomes, transcriptomes, and epigenomes from any organism at unprecedented accuracy. We're looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to bridge the gap between our research team and our customers. Ideal candidates would support customer analysis, improve existing workflows, and inform development of new tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Test and integrate PacBio tools and open-source academic tools to analyze data for internal and customer projects
  • Work with collaborators to understand their needs and priorities, and assist with experimental design and analysis
  • Document bioinformatics workflows and pipelines for use by a wide audience
  • Conduct internal training on PacBio data characteristics, target applications, and relevant computational tools
  • Communicate findings and new capabilities to the scientific community
  • Maintain expertise on emergent scientific and clinical sequencing applications


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field of study 
  • Proficiency with a scripting language such as Python or R
  • Intermediate level of experience in Unix operating systems
  • Experience with sequencing analysis and pipelines
  • Prior experience with long-read sequencing analysis and applications preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent communication skills with a track record of explaining difficult concepts to a diverse audience
