OPPORTUNITY
Mammoth is seeking a Senior Research Associate with protein production expertise to join its growing Discovery team. The Discovery team is responsible for developing novel CRISPR-associated (Cas) nucleases for genome editing applications. 
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing laboratory workflows to produce Cas nucleases for genome editing. The primary focus for this role will be on protein production and process development. This is an excellent development opportunity for researchers who want to learn new skills and start their career working on cutting-edge CRISPR technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute internal microbial protein production for research applications
  • Contribute to process development to establish methods to produce proteins and protein complexes for biochemical characterization and structural interrogation
  • Rigorously document newly developed methods and results
  • Provide regular updates at internal meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field 
  • 2+ years of laboratory industry experience developing and executing bacterial protein expression workflows including, but not limited to:
  • Bacterial transformation and growth in liquid media
  • Execution of upstream (cell harvest, lysis, clarification) and downstream (liquid chromatography, filtration, concentration) processes
  • Protein analytical methods (Eg. homogeneity evaluation, protein quantitation, detection / quantitation of process-related impurities such as host-cell protein, endotoxin, nucleic acids)
  • Generation of working cell banks
  • FPLC systems (Eg. Cytiva AKTA, BioRad NGC) and associated software packages

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field 
  • Prior experience executing upstream and / or downstream process development
  • Previous protein manufacturing experience (research-grade or cGMP)
  • Hands-on experience in the following areas: 
  • Biochemical assays
  • Molecular biology (PCR, DNA/RNA purification and quantitation)
  • Computer and scripting skills (Benchling, Geneious, JMP, SQL, R, python)
