Job Description:

The Senior Director of Trade, Distribution, and Supply Chain leads the development of Ipsen’s trade strategies and oversees all distribution and dispensing programs for Ipsen U.S. products in addition to managing supply chain coordination for the US operation.

Main Responsibilities & Job Expectations

  • Develop and execute dispensing and distribution strategies spanning wholesalers, specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies, retail pharmacies, hospital outpatient pharmacies, hospital inpatient pharmacies, long term care pharmacies, dispensing practices, direct purchase accounts and other trade channel outlets.
  • Coordinate with Forecasting and Brand teams to project US supply chain needs for Global Supply Chain to manufacture and deliver adequate trade channel supply to meet forecasted demand of products
  • Lead the relationship and guide the Associate Director of Supply Chain and 3PL Operations in day-to-day management of the Third-Party Logistics partner.
  • Liaise with VP of Finance, Gross-to-Net Director, and other FP&A associates to frequently discuss and assess credit limits, returns, sales trends, channel inventory, and novel distribution/dispensing models taking into account the organizational goals and needs.
  • Align distribution and dispensing strategies with business and financial objectives, including patient support services considerations (Reimbursement Support, PAP, Co-Pay Programs Replacement, etc.) as well as customer business models
  • Negotiate competitive distribution and dispensing terms and fees including prompt payment terms, wholesaler service fees, administrative fees, data service fees, and stocking fees, while minimizing exposure to returned goods
  • Manage field-based staff responsible for calling on trade customers and channel Intelligence staff.
  • Direct the 3PL, SPP and PBM partners to ensure that Ipsen products are warehoused within quality, regulatory, and supply chain standards and customer and distribution services are executed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Conduct ongoing business reviews, establish metrics, monitor day-to-day operations, and assess continuous improvements in order to stay abreast of industry changes and competitive benchmarks across all trade channels
  • Reassess trade agreements and associated terms as needed to ensure competitive fee structures and service
  • Work with the appropriate departments to develop standardized reporting dashboards to measure performance across all trade channels
  • Ensure that data feeds from trade customers allow for real-time analysis of ex-factory and ex-distributor sales and prescription tracking
  • Anticipate, evaluate, and develop new channel strategies and providers as needed for industry changes, new product introductions, or improvement of services to healthcare providers and patients
  • Manage trade channel inventory levels within Ipsen guidelines
  • Develop annual channel operations strategic plan and budget
  • Partner with Value & Access and Finance counterparts to support effective GTN calculations and Government Price Reporting

Abilities, Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of overall pharmaceutical / biotech industry experience
  • 8+ years of specialty trade and/or channel operations experience, including customer relations, contract negotiations, distribution channel policy development
  • Experience leading trade teams, with a proven ability to establish and manage complex distribution channels for specialty products
  • Established trade customer relationships
  • Trade launch planning experience across Oncology, Neuroscience, and Rare Disease specifically, or other specialty products
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical and biotech distribution channel operations, the role and services of each provider in the channel, and regulatory requirements that pertain to these relationships
  • Clear understanding of regulatory boundaries, financial management of government pricing, and Drug Supply Chain Security Act
