Specialist IS Architect Industrial Control SystemsPlatform Lead (Remote)

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will join our Manufacturing Digital Capabilities team as a global lead for Industrial Control Systems, helping our network of manufacturing sites to improve and advance their automated manufacturing platforms.

Key job responsibilities:

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Build out Industrial Control Systems solutions, standards, community by providing technical leadership to a global team of engineers and business partners

  • Define the Industrial Control Systems platform roadmap

  • Lead selected efforts to design, build, and develop rapid Proof-of-Concept (POC) solutions and services. Quickly and iteratively prove or disprove the concepts being considered.

  • Work with process subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand key process requirements and transform them into digital automated solutions

  • Lead development on high profile and complex projects to ensure quality and timely delivery of projects by working closely with the cross functional team members (software development, business, GIS, etc.)

  • Collaborate with business partners to understand how automation can improve quality and efficiency

  • Synthesize requirements from clients, customers or end-users to develop the best automation solutions

  • Own and manage the global product label template library

A day in the life:

  • You are leading from the front engaging with business functions and other architects to develop a vision and multi-year roadmap for the advancement of Industrial Control Systems

  • Collaborating with service owners, support teams and the application run management to continuously improve platform reliability

  • Shaping Amgen's future Keep track of industry and technology trends, connect and foster external networking opportunities to deliver valuable insight from other similar professionals in our industry

  • Performing cross system analysis, feasibility analysis, scope projects, prioritize deliverables, and recommend optimal solution.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Masters degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience


Bachelors degree and 5 years of Information Systems experience


Associates degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience designing, developing, deploying, and operating Industrial Control and Automation Systems

  • Strong technical leadership in Distributed / Process Control Systems

  • Detailed knowledge and experience in Emerson DeltaV or Rockwell FactoryTalk Systems

  • Good understanding of GxP systems validation

  • Process Automation and Engineering experience delivering value

  • Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, stakeholders and management. Demonstrate strong collaboration across all levels of the organization. Assertive and confident in raising action points with senior individuals with excellent spoken and written communication.

  • Self-motivated individual with demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and technologies, work cross-functionally in teams (internal and external)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with scientific domain expertise to communicate optimally with various partners within the organization

  • Strong ability in defining and refining business system requirement and recommend digital solutions. Experience creating requirements specifications, design specifications, and test protocol documents

  • Experience and understanding of infrastructure services, fundamentals and operations (Storage, VMs, Network, Active Directory, etc.)

  • Experience in relational database fundamentals and programming/scripting languages, including but not limited to: C#, VB, Python, JavaScript

  • Experience in industrial control system communication tools (e.g., Kepware, Matrikon) and protocols (e.g., OPC, MQTT)

  • Knowledge and understanding of related and interconnected systems including Data Historian and Manufacturing Execution Systems

  • Ability to quickly assimilate knowledge of new platforms, languages, tools and technologies

  • Experience working with Agile development methodologies (such as Sprint and Scrum) and DevOps is an advantage

  • Familiarity with industry standards, methodologies and regulations including ISA88, ISA95, GAMP and 21 CFR Part 11
