VP of Hardware Engineering

Eikon Therapeutics is a young biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the interface of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

 Position:

As the VP of Hardware Engineering, you will lead, manage, and grow Eikon’s world-class mechanical, optical, and electrical teams. Your teams will design, build, maintain, and improve our protein tracking instrumentation, as well as our fully automated drug discovery robotic platform. You will take the group to the next level of rigor, establishing procedures to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and quality.  You will work with Product Management and the Eikon Discovery Team to establish product definitions, Program Management to build schedules, and Finance to build budgets. You will have frequent communication with internal stakeholders, customers, and executives, ensuring information is flowing smoothly and expectations are being met.

 Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional leadership in driving company mission, culture, and deliverables
  • Develop our hardware engineering strategy encompassing the roadmap and engineering product development process
  • Ensure sound manufacturing processes are developed and followed
  • Work collaboratively with internal partners to define and deliver a technology roadmap
  • Lead teams of mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers in the development of our instrumentation and automated systems
  • Put in place a PLM tool and drive adoption
  • Grow, manage, and inspire teams of highly skilled engineers, empowering them to set and meet critical development milestones and budget constraints
  • Work with the Product Management team to establish product requirements
  • Work with the Program Management team to build development plans
  • Work with the Finance team to develop and maintain an operating budget
  • Stay on top of technical developments in the field and bring this knowledge back to the teams
  • Drive the development of a hardware IP portfolio
  • Be an active participant in design reviews across engineering
  • Contribute to recruiting activities
  • Create and proliferate a healthy, fun engineering culture

 Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or related field
  • 15+ years’ experience, including 8+ years’ experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience developing and executing to timelines and budgets
  • Solid track record of building and launching commercial or research grade complex, integrated hardware products, ideally with an optical component
  • Experience working with groups manufacturing precision optomechanical assemblies a strong plus
  • Experience thinking strategically and executing methodically in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to manage teams executing multiple R&D projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges
