The Alexanian Lab at the Gladstone Institutes is seeking an enthusiastic Research Associate (RA) to join our new team. The goal of our laboratory is to understand the gene-regulatory and epigenetic mechanisms that govern cellular plasticity in normal and abnormal physiology, with a particular focus on heart disease. Our long-term aspirational goal is for our findings to inform new therapeutic strategies for a wide variety of chronic disorders that feature maladaptive remodelling of cell state and tissue architecture.
The RA in this position will contribute to projects that require a combination of wet lab molecular biology (cloning, plasmid DNA manipulation/preparation, agarose gel electrophoresis, PCR, RNA isolation, quantitative RT-PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation), cell culture (primary cell lines, human stem cells, transfection, virus production), as well as animal husbandry (maintaining mouse colonies, designing breeding schemes, tagging of animals, PCR genotyping, basic dissections). You will also have the chance to learn several cutting edge genomic technologies such as: single cell assays to profile the transcriptional and chromatin landscape, CRISPR-based screening, Cut&Run and PROseq. The candidate will also assist in general upkeep of the laboratory such as ordering and organization of supplies and reagents and keeping equipment in operation.
The RA will be a full member of the scientific community in the lab, with the expectation that they will develop independent experiments and report results in publications. This is an excellent opportunity for any candidate who wishes to pursue graduate school in the future. This is a new laboratory strongly committed to: culture of team-working, mentoring, curiosity, creativity, and diversity of background. The RA will be embedded in the dynamic, vibrant and fun research community of the Gladstone-UCSF Mission Bay campus. We are ideally looking for applicants who could start in September 2022, but we can consider later start.
