Job Details

Waters, with its partner, Boston University, is looking to hire a post-doctoral fellow to drive ideation and the development of novel technologies used to fight challenging strains of the flu virus, as well as SARS-CoV-2. The Post Doc will work on a convergent team of chemists, biochemists, glycoscientists, informaticians and data scientists and will be mentored by a combination of Boston University faculty and leading scientists from Waters.

 

The Post-Doctoral Scientists at Waters will be based in the heart of Kendall Square at Waters' new state of the art facility located in Cambridge and will have access to the most cutting-edge LCMS technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Working at the intersection of software development, LC-MS technology, and biochemistry.
  • Investigation of novel technologies to characterize glycosylation in the virus
  • Develop software for the analysis of multi-dimensional LC-MS data (including Cyclic IMS) related to the study.
  • LC-MS or LC-MS/MS method development/validation and sample analysis for quantitation of biopharmaceuticals and biomarkers in a variety of biological sample matrices in a regulated environment; using either intact or signature peptide approaches.
  • Candidate will be required to communicate observations, maintain accurate scientific data and records, and present data in oral and written form according to agreed schedules with both BU and Waters.
  • Independently write high impact scientific manuscripts for publication in the primary literature
  • Provide input and advice leadership on short- and long-term goals/vision around quantitative bioanalysis as outlined by the Waters-BU Collaboration.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in biochemistry or computer science (preferred), or analytical chemistry or related discipline (acceptable) with >3 years of experience utilizing LC-MS methodologies with knowledge of immunocapture techniques for the quantitation of biopharmaceuticals and biomarkers
  • Strong software development skills.   Recommended proficiency with a combination of C++, C#, R, and Python.
  • A willingness to develop a thorough understanding of the glycosylation and chemistry of biopharmaceuticals (biologic medical product(s)), biomarkers, immunoassay and biological mass spectrometry as well as the ability to use these technologies to drive innovation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; exceptional collaborative behaviors and networking skills.
