Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Quality & Compliance Officer, the VP, Quality, Ethics and Compliance Strategy, Operations and Culture is accountable for ensuring that Quality, Ethics and Compliance (QEC), the company’s recently coupled control function, is well-positioned to deliver on its business objectives by establishing clear strategic priorities, driving effective execution, and spearheading innovative quality and compliance cultural initiatives. The individual fulfilling this role will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic roadmap for QEC, driving improvements and adherence to functional governance, proactively managing business priorities, and delivering innovative ‘culture of integrity’ programming. This role leads by influence in a highly complex, matrixed environment, is highly visible across the company and is expected to contribute and have impact at a global level. As such, the role establishes and maintains productive relationships with QEC, partners closely with other key functions, routinely interacts with Executive and Senior Management and other internal and external stakeholders. The VP, Quality Strategy, Operations and Culture is a member of the QEC Leadership team and acts as the central point of contact and proxy for the EVP, QEC (Quality, Ethics and Compliance) and the Leadership team when appropriate.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Foster a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and personal accountability in interactions with direct reports and others.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of quality and compliance principles as well as broad experience across various roles within the life sciences industry. The candidate will have exquisite organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to drive complex, strategic and operational initiatives, a track record of establishing and embedding cultural norms, the ability to drive adherence to strong governance and decision making, expert communication skills and the ability to represent the views of the QEC organization, and the EVP, QEC where appropriate.
  • Establish and ensure that the strategic vision, 3-year roadmap, and business priorities of the QEC organization are successfully executed
  • Lead the strategic planning/annual objective setting process for the QEC organization, driving key decisions, identifying opportunities to improve processes and maximize resources, ensuring alignment/ coordination across the business
  • Oversee internal and external communications/change management activities related to the QEC function and the office of the EVP, QEC
  • Create and ensure adherence to functional governance, work to continuously innovate, optimize and improve associated processes
  • Lead the business review process, providing strong data analysis to support decision making, strategic perspective and knowledge of the business to frame a narrative, and coordination of content development across key functions and stakeholders
  • Define, build and embed a ‘culture of integrity’ through the delivery and reinforcement of culture initiatives; assess and measure progress, adjust as necessary to ensure uptake
  • Build and maintain relationships throughout the organization, keep check on organizational well-being, proactively address and resolve issues as they emerge and ensure operations are functioning smoothly
  • Leadership:
  • Deliver on commitments, annual goals and hold others accountable 
  • Lead and develop the teams within the function 
  • Communicate effectively up, down and peer to peer across the enterprise 
  • Demonstrate strong judgment applying operational knowledge in evaluating and analyzing systems and processes 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and peers on Emergent approach and align with EQS&C on all activities related to external quality 
  • Mentor and coach direct reports to enable their career growth

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

•    Bachelor’s degree required: Advanced Degree(s) preferred (MBA, MPH, JD or PhD) 
•    Dynamic, hands-on leader with 15-25 years of recent experience in the life sciences/pharmaceutical/biotech industry
•    Demonstrated experience in strategic management, planning and execution
•    Strong working knowledge of applicable global regulatory and GxP requirements required
•    Developed problem solving and negotiation skills
•    Highly developed communications skills (written/verbal) 
•    Results/action-orientation; project management skills
•    Organizational and political agility, interpersonal savvy
•    Able to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced, highly- complex business environment
•    Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity and trust
