We are currently searching for a Scientific Program Analyst to independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), Division of Intramural Research. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Interact with Training Directors/program specialists at other NIH Institutes/Center and NIDCD scientific faculty/staff/trainees to ensure that NIDCD programming is operating at a high level and in line with current NIH policies
  • Create analytical tools to evaluate program elements that will assist in planning for future activities, present data to the NIDCD Training Director for discussion
  • Advise on, develop, and execute on NIDCD trainee- and mentoring-focused workshops, retreats, and courses, including the annual NIDCD DIR Retreat, NIDCD’s annual week-long EAR essentials course, an adapted version of CIMER’s Entering Mentoring, the Summer Student Seminar Series. Attend and analyze existing NIH programming to look for gaps that should be developed and filled by NIDCD DIR.
  • Assist in management and support of NIDCD summer interns
  • Work with NIH staff to coordinate NIDCD participation in central trainee programs, including but not limited to the NIH Postbac Enrichment Program (PEP), the NIH Summer Internship Program subprograms, the NIH Summer Research Mentor Awards, and the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP)
  • Develop, promote, and execute programming that supports NIDCD trainees
  • Analyze existing data on the NIDCD training program
  • Examine NIDCD exit survey data and create presentations about where NIDCD trainees are going, the quality of their mentorship, and their career choices
  • Examine NIDCD annual fellowship evaluation data to monitor progress, analyze trends
  • Advise on potential edits to current questions posed to NIDCD trainees
  • Develop and disseminate resources that support advertisement of the event (e.g., template promotional emails for DIR, promotional flyers for trans-NIH and professional organizations, etc.)
  • Suggest ideas/tools for optimizing interaction among participants based on event format
  • Assist with or lead group facilitation during meetings
  • Act as the point of contact (POC) for inquiries
  • Develop agendas/schedules/curricula
  • Confirm with speakers/instructors
  • Coordinate with NIDCD IT support to create web-based resources (e.g., Teams channels, registration websites, Zoom links)
  • Book conference rooms through NIDCD Events Management for in-person/hybrid events
  • Help develop and implement NIDCD trainee recruitment plan, including but not limited to initiatives at conferences, graduate fairs, and with Howard University staff through the NIDCD-Howard partnership program
  • Deliver lectures through the NIDCD Summer Student Seminar Series, which is a series of workshops designed to support NIDCD summer interns
  • Liaise with the NIDCD Summer Program Coordinator in ensuring summer interns are ready to begin their training experiences and remaining abreast of current NIH safety policies for summer interns
  • Advise NIDCD Training Director on ideal format for trainee presentations during the annual Board of Scientific Counselors (BSC) review meetings
  • Serve on NIDCD trainee-related and inclusion-related committees, including the NIDCD Fellows Committee, the NIDCD Diversity Working Group, the NIH Training Directors Committee, the NIH Board of Training Directors, and the NIDCD Intramural Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Serve on and assist with NIDCD/NIH committees as needed
  • Facilitate and deliver Division-wide Annual Ethics Case Discussions
  • Serve as discussion facilitator
  • Develop supporting course material (e.g., slides, polling, etc.), based on the details of each case
  • Manage and record staff participation, send data to trans-NIH Ethics Dashboard, use dashboard to ensure requirement is met by all NIDCD scientific researchers
  • Coordinate annual NIDCD Trainee Check-In Survey
  • Consult on survey question content
  • Analyze data, provide recommendations based on current challenges and strengths
  • Create draft presentations for the NIDCD Management Council, NIDCD Fellows Committee

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resource and Personnel Management or similar field
  • Ph.D. degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience

 

Skills:

  • Work with the NIDCD Division of Intramural Research (DIR) Training Director to provide support for oversight of the NIDCD training and fellowship program
  • Develop, coordinate, and perform NIDCD trainee-related web updates
  • Adobe Acrobat

  • MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
