Within the Gene Therapy Franchise (GTF) the Senior Data Scientist leads identification, implementation, and use of digital tools, technologies and platforms for analysis of process and analytical datasets.. They will develop and implement best practices surrounding data capture, integrity and provenance, and champion these concepts within the franchise. In collaboration with franchise technical area leads, they will build systems to contextualize data sets from process and analytical activities into datasets that are analysis-ready for the franchise scientific community, and lead the selection of analysis tools (both software tools and specific statistical/algorithmic approaches). They will advance the socialization of techniques and new technologies across the RESLIENCE network. Externally, the data scientist will promote the company vision of a data-centric biomanufacturing platform, and collaborate with industry leaders and experts within biomanufacturing data science. In client interactions, the Senior Data Scientist will contribute to drafting scopes of work and proposals, and they will work with clients to understand needs and exceed expectations through best-in-class, client-focused data science capabilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Builds, manages, and develops a world-class data workflows that are technically strong, client focused, innovative, and adherent to the highest standards without compromise

  • Liaison with the Digital team to identify/design and deploy core informatics solutions

  • Develop data-centric representations of process and analytical activities that serve as the backbone of development and tech transfer workflows

  • Lead and be accountable for data capture, integrity, and provenance within the franchise

  • Develop, socialize , and champion data analytics approaches that can be standardized across the franchise

  • Define the multiyear E2E (end to end) digital and data strategy for the Gene Therapy franchise that includes the lab informatics tools to data-driven insight generation.

  • Partner with MFG/QC to establish digital tech transfer and digital continued-process verification workflows.

  • Enable data-centric three-way knowledge transfer between Research, Development, and Technical Operations

  • Establish leadership across industry (such as IQ consortium) to advance the use of predictive and digital technologies in development and MFG activities

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to help junior staff with their career growth

  • Review and approve technical documents including standard operating procedures, test methods, and technical reports

  • Develop and maintain systems that ensure the technical and regulatory competency of the franchise

  • Represents the company at scientific meetings which may include presenting posters, presentations, and panels.

  • Prioritizes competing interests between internal teams (X, Ops, Franchises) and clients.

  • Evaluate risks and opportunities for the GTF and drive strategic outcomes for the business

  • Ensure all team members are providing the highest level of customer service to clients.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MS) in a data-related field with substantial scientific and statistical component. Expertise in time series data analysis a plus.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the biotechnology industry and/or contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) in a process analytics or data analytics role

  • Proven track record of leadership experience and subject matter expertise in data analytics, leveraging diverse data sets and including biotechnology process and analytical data

  • Familiarity with the integration of data collection systems and data analysis/reporting applications such as SIMCA, PI Historian, PI Process Book, Excel, JMP, and Statistica/Discoverant

  • Experience building custom ETL and data analytics pipelines, using tools such as python, R/Shiny, Airflow

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in gene therapy or viral vectors

  • Experience working at a CDMO or other service provider
