Job Details

We are seeking a scientist with strong command of human genetics, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry and disease modeling to support a newly established human systems group focusing on genetics-driven new disease biology and target discovery. You should have multidisciplinary expertise, with an emphasis in the areas of molecular and cellular biology, neurodegeneration, inflammation, and tissue regeneration and metabolism. Prior experience with microphysiological systems (Organ-Chips) and/or organoids would be a plus.  You will interact closely within the Velocigene group as well as the Regeneron Genetics Center and across the organization to coordinate activities and collaborations. Candidates who aspire to become part of an innovative and scientifically inspiring environment, with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies, who enjoy collaborating within and outside of a team, have a passion for scientific discovery, face challenges with a positive attitude, can multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment, and are dedicated to high quality research, are encouraged to apply.

A typical day would include:

  • Design, plan, and independently perform experiments in human cell-based systems, including human iPSCs, microphysiological systems and organoids, for disease modelling, disease biology, and molecular, cellular and functional characterization of new genetic variants associated with human disorders, including neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation.
  • Utilize biochemistry and/or imaging for characterization of disease-related molecular and cellular mechanisms.
  • Perform biochemical and/or imaging-based experiments to examine cell function and cell-cell interactions as they associate to tissue dysfunction and disease development.
  • Explore novel technologies and develop new human-based models and methods for improving the breadth, translational relevance, and efficiency of experiments.
  • Design and conduct experiments and provide advanced data analysis under minimal supervision.
  • Keep up-to-date and well-organized records of experiments and generate experimental reports.
  • Analyze data across projects, formulate therapeutic hypotheses and communicate findings and ideas via presentations in Velocigene and across the company, and in senior management meetings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the company to support the drug development pipeline.

This role may be for you if you are:

  • An independent problem solver able to excel in a fast-track environment while leading and coordinating multiple projects in a highly collaborative fashion.
  • A strong communicator and presenter who is highly organized.
  • Self-driven, enjoy the matrix environments and multidisciplinary teams, be team-oriented and productive with proven scientific problem-solving ability and strong interpersonal skills.

To be considered for this role you must possess a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Physiology, Tissue Engineering, or other related fields.  At least 3 years of relevant postdoctoral training required, including independently leading own project(s).  Excellent publication record.  Ability to work both independently and in a team.    Managerial experience preferred, which can include overseeing lower-level trainees.  Strong hands-on experience in molecular, biochemical and cellular biology methods is required.  Solid understanding of systems interactions in disease development is highly desirable.  Good understanding of mechanisms of neuronal function and neuronal communication and, ideally, experience with biology of neurodegeneration and/or neuroinflammation is highly preferred.  Hands-on experience with human iPSC and/or organoids or other multicellular systems is highly preferred.  Experience in gene expression and proteomics analyses is highly preferred.
