Associate Scientist, CRISPR Platform (Next Generation Sequencing)

OPPORTUNITY
Mammoth is currently seeking a creative and detail-oriented Associate Scientist with expertise and experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) to join our CRISPR Platform team. The ideal candidate will work both cross-functionally with colleagues as well as independently to develop and execute NGS workflows to support the discovery, characterization, and development of novel Cas nucleases for genome editing.

The successful candidate will serve as the functional lead of the in-house NGS core and will also have the opportunity to contribute broadly across technical areas, such as high-throughput screening in mammalian cell lines and molecular biology/genomics process development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute in-house NGS workflows (e.g. NGS library construction/QC, operating/maintaining in-house NGS instruments, timely data delivery, NGS user technical consultation)
• Manage and sustain wet- and dry-lab operations of the in-house NGS core
• Contribute to development of NGS-based assays to meet the technical needs across teams
• Contribute to development and implementation of sample and data management tools
• Detailed, accurate, and timely documentation of experimental procedures, data, and analysis, including meticulous sample tracking and data management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genome sciences, biochemistry, or a related field and 4+ years experience or a Masters degree and 2+ years of experience of academic/industry research or laboratory operations related to next generation sequencing 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in applying NGS to answer research questions or solve scientific problems
• Experience or proficiency in NGS sample preparation and data analysis
• Working familiarity with quantification instruments such as Qubit, TapeStation, NanoDrop, qPCR machines, etc.
• Experience working in an NGS or genomics core facility and operating Illumina sequencers (e.g. MiSeq, NextSeq)
• Experience managing an NGS or genomics core facility (technical and/or people management)
• Experience with high-throughput laboratory automation (e.g. Tecan liquid handlers, Echo, ZAG)
• Experience or proficiency with SQL as well as data analysis tools such as JMP, R, etc.
• 4+ years of biotechnology industry experience

TEAM
Our small-size proteins, such as Cas14 and CasPhi, are poised to transform disease treatment enabling novel editing approaches and delivery options that are difficult to achieve or not even possible with previously described CRISPR-Cas systems. Our teams are responsible for discovering and engineering novel CRISPR systems, establishing CRISPR-based diagnostics, and translating our unique CRISPR technology into therapeutic treatments with the ultimate goal of cures for indications with high medical need.
