Job Summary

The Director, Investor Relations & Corporate Communications will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Investor Relations & Corporate Communications. This person will be responsible for investor relations and both external and internal corporate communications as well as work closely with human resources to develop and execute a best-in-class communications program that builds Avidity’s identity, reputation and visibility and reflects the business needs of the company. The right candidate will be a highly effective communicator with excellent writing skills, a strong strategic thinker who can execute with excellence, a team player capable of collaborating with a dynamic cross-functional team, and a highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key functions will include executive communications, public relations, investor relations, social media, corporate social responsibility and internal communications. The Manager of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations will report into this position, so prior management experience is a plus.

While the role will evolve over time and changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs, the key responsibilities for this role include:

Investor Relations

    • Execute strategic and comprehensive investor relations plan to align with the overall business objectives including engaging with sell-side analysts, engaging with existing holders and helping to identify new holders
    • Manage participation in investor focused events and conferences, including materials creation and management team preparation
    • In association with the S.V.P., prepare key written investor materials: corporate presentation, press releases, earnings materials and related messaging and Q/A documents
    • Coordinate, plan and execute key company events, including virtual R&D series, analyst days, medical / scientific conferences, data presentations and other related news-driven opportunities
    • Work closely with the clinical development and research teams to ensure our external communications align with our internal expectations
    • Confirm and verify all information is following product promotion guidelines, SEC regulations and adheres to Regulation Fair Disclosure

Corporate Communications

    • Spearhead the development of Avidity’s communication strategy and campaigns to elevate the Avidity brand both internally and externally
    • Provide strategic analysis of issues and determines appropriate proactive and reactive messaging to enhance and improve the reputation of the organization and support the vision and direction
    • Manage approval process for external communications including coordinating input and feedback from cross-functional teams
    • Manage corporate website, updating and editing as required
    • Quality-check documents for press releases and key media announcements
    • In partnership with Human Resources, manage internal employee communications, including managing town halls and certain internal company meetings
    • Develop and evolve the communication strategy to align with changes to the business
    • Lead and develop strong partnerships with external firms and consultants, including digital /social media firms, to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget

Preferred Education and/or Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • 10+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical investor relations/corporate communications, including external and internal communications
    • Must work with others in a way that represents Avidity’s BeAVID values – Agile, Visionary, Integrated and Diverse
    • Relevant experience at a communications agency and/or in-house experience at another high-growth biopharmaceutical company in a similar role is required
    • Exceptional communication skills across an organization and with strong working relationships with senior leadership
    • Proven leadership skills with an ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and influence decision-making without authority
    • Highly motivated individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in a rapidly growing and changing environment; confidence and organizational skills to independently work on multiple tasks
    • Strong understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, drug development and regulatory processes, as well as rules and regulations guiding public disclosures
    • Ability to understand science and medical terminology and to translate that into communication to lay audiences
    • Deep knowledge and experience with managing and overseeing contract IR/PR agencies and vendors
