Gilead Sciences is seeking a Counsel to join our growing team of brand attorneys in Oncology. The Oncology attorney is responsible for providing legal support in relation to the development and commercialization of Gilead's Oncology portfolio, which includes Trodelvy® (sacituzumab govitecanhziy) and Magrolimab. The primary clients for this role include personnel in Commercial, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Finance, Regulatory, and Clinical Research. The Global Therapeutic Area Legal (GTAL) team, where this attorney will sit, works closely with colleagues in Compliance, Privacy, US Pricing & Access, Competition Law, Regulatory and other groups to ensure the compliant commercialization of our products. The attorney will collaborate with attorneys in our International Legal, Pricing and Access, Competition Law, Intellectual Property teams and other legal functions. The Oncology Business Conduct attorney will provide legal and compliance input into U.S. strategies and tactics, drive alignment and consistency across international affiliates, and be directly responsible for providing legal support for activities in the United States. Broadly speaking, the role is responsible for oversight of communications about our products and interactions with stakeholders such as healthcare professionals, patients, charitable organizations and third parties retained by our business. The Oncology Business Conduct Attorney will also conduct, assist and/or provide input into our business conduct policies, training, monitoring, auditing, communications, enforcement, and defense of investigations. The role is based in either Foster City, California or Morris Plains, New Jersey, reporting to the Senior Counsel II, Oncology.

This role requires a person who can identify, communicate, coordinate and manage various issues, projects and initiatives simultaneously and across geographies and cultures. This role also requires a person who can proactively engage stakeholders in advising on legal issues and coming to appropriate resolutions in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Job Functions
  • Provide prompt review and guidance to the Oncology Promotional Review Committee, and any related sub-teams on various Commercial and Medical Affairs' global strategic activities and documents.
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Development on U.S. and global-based initiatives to help ensure alignment and consistency with Gilead's policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Global Compliance Team to provide insights into Training and Monitoring, as well as, with Risk Assessments/Anti-Bribery-Anti-Corruption, and Value and Access to coordinate our global efforts.


Desired Skills
  • Prior experience with biotech oncology agents, including product launch experience and strong understanding of solid tumor cancers and blood borne cancers.
  • Detailed knowledge of the US Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, HIPAA, privacy-laws, advertising laws and regulatory guidance, Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and other government regulation of pharmaceutical products OR similar laws internationally is required.
  • Familiarity with these additional areas is also helpful: Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other relevant anti-bribery laws, guidance on Patient-Focused Drug Development activities, Patient Support Services, and legal contract principles.
  • Demonstrated high EQ and client-service orientation; able to recognize and respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations and demanding clients.
  • Have exceptional and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Operate with a high level of autonomy and competently lead complex areas of responsibility and/or teams and matters that require significant experience.
  • Proven judgment in working through complex issues, including those with significant strategic risk to a company. Developed ability to apply judgment to areas outside of core competency.
  • Leadership and project management in crossfunctional projects, and demonstrated ability to exercise initiative


Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate from a nationally accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California or New Jersey state bar, registration as in-house counsel, or ability to gain admission or registration for either within 90 days.
  • 4 - 6 years prior in-house or law firm experience providing legal counsel on the laws and regulations relating to drugs or devices, demonstrating growth and ability to succeed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
