Data Scientist

We are currently searching for a Research Analyst to independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

• Collaborate with staff on advancing the understanding of how genetic changes influence the risk of developing complex neurodegenerative diseases, such as Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and frontotemporal dementia.
• Work with staff to use genetic knowledge for the development of novel ancillary diagnostic tools and apply modern gene discovery technologies, including genome-wide association testing, genome sequencing, and genomic data integration.
• Provide data science services for the analysis of genetic data in neurodegenerative diseases.
• Perform analyses of genomic data to support a variety of bioinformatic research projects and demonstrate critical-thinking skills to interpret large genomic data sets.
• Apply commonly used analytical gene discovery techniques, including – but not limited to – genome-wide association testing, gene burden analysis, machine learning applications, cross-phenotype genetic analyses, and multi-omic data integration.
• Share scientific information, through the writing of scientific manuscripts, mentoring of team members and oral presentations of data at seminars and conferences.

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology
• At least 1-2 years of experience
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in analyzing next-generation genomic data
• Familiarity with computer clusters and cloud-based computing
