Job Details
We are currently seeking a Principal Scientist I, Gene Editing - Blood Disorders who will be responsible for leading the research and early development activities for gene editing systems Mammoth. In this role, the successful candidate and their team will be responsible for the implementation of Mammoth’s proprietary CRISPR nuclease systems for in vivo gene editing to address blood disorders. The Principal Scientist will be collaborating with Non-Viral Delivery, Viral Delivery, in vitro Screening, and in vivo Pharmacology teams to lead the design, testing and delivery of lead candidates for a variety of blood disorders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the research efforts on designing, testing, optimizing and selecting lead candidates for blood disorder indications using our novel Mammoth Cas nuclease systems
- Lead from the bench a team of researchers to produce and test candidates for cell therapies
- Assess viral and non-viral delivery systems for gene editing of target cells
- Manage the projects of the Blood Disorders team to support deliverables along established timelines
- Hire and mentor additions to the team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Biology, Chemistry or related discipline
- 6+ years of relevant research post-PhD experience in an industry or academic setting, with a focus on gene editing and cell therapies
- Experience with non-viral delivery systems
- Expertise with in vitro screening systems and assays, cloning, and tissue culture
- Hands-on experience with cell line engineering for reporter or disease models
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in iPSC and primary cell culture
- Experience with relevant in vitro/in vivo models of blood disorders
- A strong foundation in experimental documentation, basic statistical analysis and data presentation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Hands on experience with cell line engineering for reporter or disease models
- Exposure to CMC processes for cell therapy

TEAM
Our small-size proteins, such as Cas14 and CasPhi, are poised to transform disease treatment enabling novel editing approaches and delivery options that are difficult to achieve or not even possible with previously described CRISPR-Cas systems. Our teams are responsible for discovering and engineering novel CRISPR systems, establishing CRISPR-based diagnostics, and translating our unique CRISPR technology into therapeutic treatments with the ultimate goal of cures for indications with high medical need.
