Backend Developer (AI)

Medical Science & Computing (MSC), now a Guidehouse company, is searching for a Backend Developer (AI) to support our work at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

 

This position is full-time, with a strong benefits package effective your first day of employment. You will start out working remotely, until a safe return to onsite work at the NIH is discovered. We are looking for those that have solid experience in their field, are passionate about the work they do, and enjoy continuously learning. Duties & Responsibilities

• Write backend and middleware code to present the implemented solutions as a service.
• Support ongoing research projects by designing and implementing cutting-edge solutions, leveraging technical competency, innovation, and evaluations.
• Implement, test and deliver optimized software for Big Data processing.
• Design, implement and evaluate relevant machine learning solutions in natural language understanding, summarization and natural language generation.
• Collaborate with designers, developers and system administrators to make the implemented services production-grade and contribute to service administration, including the administration of Linux servers and backend web containers as needed. Including configuring, installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, security patching and remediating, and maintaining software for servers.

 

 

 

 

Requirements

Required qualifications:

• BS degree in Computer Science/related field of study or equivalent related experience
• 1+ years strong backend development experience using Python, Java and backend services
• Experience with Git, Maven.
• Proficiency with Python.
• Proficiency with Java.
• Experience with Linux services design and deployment.

 

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience/knowledge of Deep Learning, Neural Networks (Recurrent, Convolutional, Attentional, VAE, Transformers).

• Enterprise application experience. 

• Proficiency with Bash scripting.
• Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing, or other Artificial Intelligence (AI) area.
• Experience using Hugging Face is a plus https://huggingface.com
• Experience in the following areas: 
  • Natural Language Processing  
  • Deep Learning 
  • Information Retrieval
  • Slurm job scheduling and cluster configuration
  • NLP pipeline: Stanford Parser, NLTK, Spacy.
  • Knowledge of SQL, RDF(S), OWL, SPARQL.
  • Designing and implementing retrieval systems with emphasis in at least two of the following:
    • Apache HTTP Server/Tomcat architecture
    • Lucene/Solr/ElasticSearch
    • Large-scale corpus processing using distributed architecture (e.g., Spark, MapReduce)
