JOB SUMMARY:   

Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a Temporary Senior Associate to support the day-to-day operations and ongoing improvements of the Technical Operations’ laboratories at Sangamo’s Brisbane site. The Temporary Sr. Associate, Lab Operations (LabOps) will manage the logistics of vendor engineers for the analytical assets in the labs, and the metrics of lab supplies inventory.  They will ensure lab hygiene policies and procedures are always followed.  They will support lab organization, lab storage, space allocation, and waste management. They will work with appropriate departments on the development of necessary SOPs for safety compliance, training, equipment maintenance, instrument calibration, and repairs of lab assets.  They will work closely with LabOps management on ordering of lab assets, service contracts and supplies.  They will support lab asset inductions into CMMS, installations in lab spaces, and oversight of qualification / validation verification activities.  They will provide feedback on lab efficiency, operations, and policies, as well as, recommendations on any necessary changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Support the operations, workflow efficiency, and continuity of services in the Research and GMP QC labs. 
  • Management of vendor logistics and COVID-19 requirements for external vendor engineer visits. 
  • Laboratory asset management that includes procurement, induction of instrument/equipment into CMMS database, installation, CAL/PM, repairs, relocations, and decommissioning activities.
  • Support management of refrigerator, freezer and LN2 inventory, including assembling templates and managing space allocations including hosting and managing cleanouts.
  • Continuous improvement efforts and implementation of lean principles.
  • Make recommendations for technical changes and improvements in assigned area and participates with vendors and representatives to maintain equipment services and other contracts .
  • Interpret company lab policies to ensure consistency across the workforce.
  • Point of contact for Facilities’ Requests, Deliveries, and Shipments.
  • Coordinate lab inspections with EH&S.
  • Enforce safety policies to ensure a safe work environment; ensures all procedures are current and accurate.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated in-depth experience of establishing and managing lab set-up, and on-going operations, associated in a biopharma industry setting, and the support of Research and QC lab functions.

Candidate must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a biology/chemistry related field
  • 4+ years of direct experience in lab operations
  • Experience with the set-up/design, operation, and maintenance activities in Research and/or GMP QC laboratories
  • Experience in lab construction improvement projects and space planning, to support laboratory workflows
  • Experience with relocation of lab equipment, chemicals, biologics, and temperature sensitive samples and reagents
  • Analytical abilities necessary, to understand complex problems and to resolve these problems through the application of appropriate technologies; the ability to structure time to meet deadlines; and the ability to be flexible to changing design requirements and deliverables
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Experience with maintenance, calibration, and validation of analytical and process equipment
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of data acquisition systems

  • Excellent communication skills and customer service mindset
  • Experience with scientific writing and presentations
  • Experience of managing contractor relationships and projects
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary industrial environment
