We’re looking for a highly motivated Lab Operations & EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) Manager to manage laboratory operations and ensure a safe working environment in our brand new laboratory located in Bedford, MA. As a member of our Technical Development, Manufacturing, and Quality department you’ll be a vital part of a highly collaborative team working to achieve Obsidian’s vision by translating innovative science into medical breakthroughs, starting with our lead program cytoTIL15 engineered to make TILs (Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocyte) more effective for more patients, starting with our lead program cytoTIL15 engineered to make TILs more effective for more patients.

Maintain and optimize processes within the lab to increase efficiency and effectiveness including lab consumables management, chemical management, and protocols for equipment.
Work both independently and collaboratively to accomplish company goals with a positive attitude.
Oversee and support ongoing laboratory operations with ordering, receiving, stocking, storage and distribution of all lab consumables, media, reagents, equipment, supplies and any other inventory item(s) related to the operation of the laboratory, and organizing various lab spaces and equipment.
Manage shipping for domestic and international shipments of lab materials, including the preparation of material for shipment.
Oversee and coordinate maintenance and tracking of lab equipment in partnership with scientists (calibrations, preventative maintenance, repairs and replacements, service contracts, new equipment purchases, space optimization).
Collaborate regularly with Scientists to identify and address any workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or opportunities for process improvement, and logistical or administrative issues in the lab.
Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems associated with work within the laboratory setting, including occasional off-hours response to laboratory emergencies.
Establish lab procedures, create and manage lab-related documentation, organize annual laboratory cleanouts.
Maintain lab safety standards and ensure a safe working environment: conduct frequent training, inspections, and walk throughs; identify, report, and eliminate actual and potential workplace hazards; reinforce safety policies and related work practices.
Coordinate all hazardous (biological and chemical) waste segregation, collection, and disposal.
- Maintain strong relationships with and serve as the primary contact for lab service vendors. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections. Support laboratory related on- and off-boarding processes. Serve as the primary contact in day-to-day laboratory operations for Bedford facility, and back-up for Cambridge facility. Coordinate systems and practices for efficiency with Cambridge Lab Operations Manager. This is an individual contributor role.
Bachelor’s degree or above and 3+ years lab operations management experience or equivalent experience.
Familiarity with basic molecular biology, sterile, and cell culture techniques; and the operation of standard lab equipment.
Experience operating and maintaining common laboratory equipment such as fridges, ultracold freezers, centrifuges, incubators, aseptic biosafety cabinets, and PCR workstations.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with a wide array of personalities and work styles.
An aptitude to communicate clearly, listen to understand, and facilitate cross-functional communication transparency and alignment.
A commitment and strong voice to advocate for safety and organization in the lab.
A high level of initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work with little supervision.
Excellent negotiating skills.
Excellent customer service and creative problem-solving skills.
Strong skills in organization, time management, and team coordination.
Adaptability to shift gears and re-prioritize throughout the day and week as new needs arise in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, balancing urgent and important.
Ability to repeatedly lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs.)
Willingness to travel to our Cambridge site as needed for support and back-up coverage.
DOT, IATA/DG, RCRA, HAZWOPER Certifications (will be required if not yet certified).
Lean Six Sigma certification.
Experience in automation, including workflow automation and process automation, to meet evolving organizational needs.
Experience working with x-ray irradiators.
Familiarity with IOPQ for lab equipment.
Experience with animal model research, including protocols (ATF is based in our Cambridge facility, this is for back-up support only).
