What will I do?

Pfizer is constantly aiming to deliver breakthroughs that will change patients’ lives. Achieving these goals requires the organization to have a clear strategic approach to capital investment. The Portfolio and Decision Analysis group (PDA), part of the Chief Business Innovation Office (CBIO) organization, is uniquely positioned within Pfizer to facilitate strategic discussions and advise on tough investment and trade-off decisions for programs within the clinical portfolio. This role involves working in close collaboration with stakeholder groups (e.g., Worldwide Research, Development and Medical (WRDM), Global Product Development (GPD), Finance, Biopharma) to identify strategic issues, facilitate discussion, and implement qualitative and/or quantitative analyses to inform decision-making.

This role is dynamic, fast-paced, highly collaborative, and covers a broad range of R&D, commercial, and strategic topics that are critical to our business. In addition, we are constantly driving thought leadership with our business partners, and continuously seeking new and creative ways to communicate highly complex and dynamic information.

The Summer Associate will have the opportunity to interact with various teams in PDA, as well as the broader Pfizer organization. Each Summer Associate will be assigned a Manager, as well as a Mentor to help the Summer Associate navigate their summer experience. In addition, Summer Associates will have the opportunity to interact with MBA Summer Associates from other functions, participate in Summer Associate networking events, and meet our Pfizer Executives.

Where will I likely focus?

  • Decision Analysis – Support analyses across large cross-functional teams that guide strategic investment decisions by implementing decision analysis (DA) methodologies to evaluate alternatives and incorporate relevant cost, risk, and return inputs
  • Portfolio Analysis – Support cross-functional strategic R&D portfolio projects for senior stakeholders that identify portfolio trends, risks, and opportunities; facilitate prioritization of projects across the portfolio through integration of key financial and strategic metrics, as well as crafting an end-to-end portfolio story for senior leaders
  • Competitive Intelligence – Support assessments analyzing competitors and market factors to understand a company’s potential for competitive differentiation, as well as the opportunities and challenges these present to a program or portfolio

What do I need?

Candidates must be enrolled in a full time MBA program and possess at least 3 years of work experience. The PDA Summer Associate should be highly proactive, work collaboratively with other groups, and exhibit an exceptional analytic mindset, intellectual curiosity, and strong attention to detail. The Summer Associate should illustrate a strong desire to deliver meaningful impact for the patients we serve through our core values of Courage, Excellence, Equity, and Joy.

Previous consulting, pharmaceutical or healthcare experience is desirable, but not required.

Students must be authorized to work on a full-time, permanent basis in the U.S.
