Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that affects the lungs and airways and can be serious, especially for infants and older adults.Each year, it is estimated that more than 177,000 older adults are hospitalized and 14,000 of them die in the U.S. due to RSV. For children younger than five years old in the U.S., approximately 2.1 million outpatient visits and 58,000 hospitalizations occur each year. Currently, there is no preventative vaccine and in order to ensure uptake after approval, there is an urgent and significant need to create an understanding of the disease burden, the importance of prevention and planning for how to effectively manage a growing schedule of respiratory disease vaccinations in healthcare settings.

Pfizer’s RSV vaccine is currently in Phase 3 development for the prevention of RSV in Older Adults (60+) and infants via Maternal vaccination and has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation. Given a highly competitive and rapidly evolving landscape, success for each indication will rely on speed to market, robust clinical data and differentiation, strong recommendations, and establishing Pfizer leadership. A US RSV Franchise team is being built and will be preparing for upcoming launches.


This role will require an experienced consumer marketer to play a critical role in setting strategies for two indications, Older Adult and Maternal, targeting different consumer groups with accelerated timelines. The Consumer Lead will work collaboratively across U.S and Global RSV Teams to translate insights into action, prioritize innovative strategies and business accelerators to overcome market challenges to drive demand in a highly competitive market, especially in the Older Adult population.

The U.S. RSV Franchise Consumer Lead will partner across Glocal and U.S. vaccines teams to manage interdependencies, collaborate on the optimal franchise approach to raise relevancy and urgency to vaccinate in an increasingly crowded vaccination marketplace and contribute to the creation of a “Pfizer Vaccines” cross brand messaging approach. This role requires strong franchise portfolio planning, competitive strategy development and launch excellence and the ability to leverage launch learnings across the enterprise.

The colleague will report to the Sr. Director, US RSV Franchise & New Products Team Lead.


  • Across two indications, serve as the U.S. Consumer Lead for all RSV consumer work, including strategy, tactical planning and execution to achieve business objectives and financial commitments
  • Lead consumer launch campaigns and determine optimal media plan with cross-functional teams
  • Across indications, lead efforts to develop innovative and integrated strategies and tactics/programs to reach consumers effectively and efficiently
  • Map consumer journeys, identify insights, issues, opportunities and critical success factors to facilitate exceptional consumer experiences
  • Develop/refine consumer segmentation to drive targeted and effective messages
  • Identify key insights and brand positioning in partnership with our business analytics and insights partners and Glocal Teams
  • Lead the research and development of new promotional campaigns, impactful messages and communications to drive engagement and vaccine uptake
  • Ensure consumer materials/claims/messaging are aligned with the brand strategic positioning, address unmet consumer needs, and differentiate vs competition, where applicable
  • Lead third-party advocacy and media partnerships to drive category (e.g. well visits and routine Maternal OBGYN appts) awareness and activate caregivers to prioritize pediatric vaccinations
  • Align with Pfizer’s broader Equity agenda by partnering with cross-functional colleagues to develop strategies and programs that help improve vaccine education in targeted populations to reduce health disparities
  • Leverage health literacy best practices to develop and/or co-create Consumer materials that are authentic and relevant to consumer needs and are actionable, understandable and appropriate
  • Transform the go-to market strategy by developing innovative digital approaches to drive consumer engagement and vaccination uptake, embracing Bold Move 3.3 principles
  • Lead the consumer agency and promotional budget. Manage and prioritize investments and trade-offs across the portfolio
  • Ensure appropriate synergies and alignment of Consumer marketing plans with overall brand strategies across indications, Op Plans and tactical plans
  • Assist with leadership deliverables and presentations, including providing routine updates on consumer marketing metrics and campaign performance


  • Undergraduate degree (BA/BS) required; MBA/Masters preferred
  • 8-10 years U.S. pharmaceutical experience preferred. Launch experience preferred
  • Vaccines Experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience in consumer marketing strategy; digital as well as more traditional communication channel tactics
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills including the ability to identify and prioritize strategic challenges and balance short term needs with long-term vision
  • Proven record of identifying customer needs, extracting key insights, and translating these into meaningful value propositions and tactics
  • Demonstrated success in independently developing, executing, and measuring cross-channel marketing programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide variety of audiences. Detail-oriented and creative
  • Must be mature, self-driven, have exceptional learning agility, and a high degree of comfort with ambiguity and complexity. Track record of pushing boundaries and not accepting the status quo
