About

As our genes change over time, the process of somatic mosaicism creates distinct cell populations in our bodies. TenSixteen Bio is the first company to therapeutically target this process, starting a new era in precision medicine. Launched in 2021 with $40M in funding from Foresite Capital and GV, we are founded by a mix of experienced drug developers and academic pioneers in the emerging field of clonal hematopoiesis, including Mark Chao, Ben Ebert, Sidd Jaiswal and Pradeep Natarajan. TenSixteen Bio is building a comprehensive R&D ecosystem to address how somatic mutations that accumulate in our blood with age offer therapeutic avenues for a broad range of diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease. We are building out a pre-clinical research group to support basic discovery and translational research efforts, and are looking for an experienced stem cell biologist to join our team.

Role

We are a seeking an HSC biologist to lead the development of novel in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical models of hematopoietic clonal dynamics and disease, translating targets and pathways of interest derived through multi-omic analyses. This individual will work cross-functionally across our platform teams, academic collaborators and CROs to drive therapeutic programs forward. This position is located at our laboratory headquarters in the South San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a research team within Discovery Biology, creating cutting-edge models of clonal hematopoiesis to support the preclinical development of TenSixteen Bio’s pipeline.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments into hematopoietic stem cell function, across human and murine in vitro/in vivo models.
  • Manage and mentor junior research associates.
  • Evaluate literature for existing and novel approaches to modulate the hematopoietic stem cell system.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from genomics and bioinformatic teams, academic collaborators and CROs to push programs forward.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D training in the life sciences or M.D. with extensive research experience.
  • 2+ years work experience in biotech/pharma R&D or equivalent post-doctoral experience.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating significant contributions to the fields of HSC biology.
  • Experience in the isolation, culture and in vitro/in vivo characterization of hematopoietic progenitors.
  • Experience in managing a research team and/or CROs in an industry setting a significant plus.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to pivot to new directions as data develops in this novel multidisciplinary space.
