Company Description

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

The Director, Software Engineering, Experiment Design will manage a small team of developers that designs, implements, and maintains our experiment design software. The director will work cross-functionally to ensure that our experiment design systems meet the goals and constraints of all experimental functions it supports.

About You

You have a passion for using software to automate biomedical experimental workflows and a desire to deeply understand how experiments are performed as well as how the data will be analyzed. You are a compassionate manager able to help your team juggle competing priorities and stay focused on long-term goals, while encouraging the team to have flexibility to keep up with the pace of experimental science.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and manage a software engineering team that will work closely with biologists and chemists to translate experiment design needs into automated software, including drug-screen and cell-line engineering efforts
  • Work with automation teams to design and implement software APIs to inventory management and robotically enabled experimental systems
  • Develop and maintain synthetic biology tools for cell-line engineering technologies such as CRISPR guide RNA design and verification
  • Ph.D. in computer science / bioinformatics / computational biology or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a professional software engineering manager
  • Some familiarity with a high-throughput automated lab experience required (college coursework ok)
  • Strong expertise in scientific python (e.g., pandas, scipy, matplotlib) and genomic editing tools is required. Cell-line engineering experience is a plus.
  • Experience with front end (GUIs, web interfaces), relational databases, and cloud computing
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum workflows and Jira is required
  • Willing and able to work onsite 2+ days per week
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges
  • Enthusiasm for gaining biological and drug discovery experience essential
