Job Description

Perform a wide variety of design duties to apply ingenuity and creativity to designs. Must always have Design for Manufacture and Design for Robustness/Sustainability in mind for all components and assemblies. Can visualize ultimate machine functions, while performing related alterations and designs with due consideration for manufacturing feasibility, cost, and operation. Use Engineering tools like advanced calculations, charts, tables, and current CAD technologies to make pertinent engineering decisions. A working knowledge of most common materials and machine shop capabilities. Must be able to visit customer locations to offer technical assistance during installation start-up and/or troubleshoot malfunctioning machines or equipment.

Job Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be working with two product lines. Your responsibility will start with understanding the scope of the projects and continue through successful testing at our facility and perhaps SAT at customer site.  The successful candidate will work with other engineers, project managers, assembler’s and customers to produce quality equipment designed to fulfill our customer’s needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design of Burt Labelers and Mateer Auger Fillers, at our factory in Clearwater, FL with a World-Wide customer base.
  • Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, Customers, Sales, Project Management Field Service and Finance.
  • Understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, fluid, and basic electrical principals. The ability to analyze and solve customer issues.
  • Familiarization with various methods of power transmission devices.
  • Work from design sketches, specifications, and engineering data; prepare layouts using SolidWorks 3D CAD software and AutoCAD software.
  • Evaluate design to verify form, fit and function as well as practicality and feasibility of manufacturing; make pertinent engineering calculations for materials, ratios, clearances, tolerances or other factors.
  • Prepare bills of material, assembly, detail drawings and pneumatic schematics using CAD tools.
  • Act as a knowledgeable specialist to support the manufacturing and assembly teams.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Manage and maintain product/project files.
  • Confer with field service team and management; visit customer locations offering very high level of expertise as required.
  • Leads, coaches, or mentors less experienced team members; interact with senior management as a specialist.

Job Requirements

  • 4 to 10 years related experience with an OEM Machinery Manufacturer
  • Packaging or High Speed Rotary machinery experience desired.
  • Experience reading, creating, & editing assembly drawings and detail drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience researching commercial parts and creating Bills of Materials.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to travel worldwide, approximately 10%.
  • English language skills required, Other languages a plus
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Problem solving skills, a must

Skills

  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, project proposals and specifications.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical design and its application into production kinematics.
  • Ability to create B.O.M’s and correct redlines.
  • Experience with Vault workflow a plus.
  • Extensive experience with 3D design and modeling software. Solid Works and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong assembly and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to find technical solutions without scripted guidance.
  • Good verbal/written communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills.

Education/Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Focus:

  • Design and develop mechanical system solutions for industrial products and production equipment.
  • Present findings to management.
  • Gather project requirements to support both new product development.
  • Conduct technical support, testing, and optimization of industrial products.
  • Support preventative maintenance efforts. Manage workflow for troubleshooting and repairs, supporting efforts for production and fixes.
  • Present and review mechanical system designs to internal teams.
  • Ensure work is completed on time, within budget, and with proper documentation.
  • Maintain industrial equipment according to industry performance and quality standards
