  • The Director, Alliance Management – Internal Medicine is responsible for managing and optimizing the value of our strategic alliances across research, development and commercial. This includes strategic in- and out- licenses, collaborations, and commercialization alliances. The primary responsibility of the Alliance Manager is to establish and maintain truly collaborative and efficient relationships with Alliance Partners such that the contracted parties can deliver on their strategy and maximize deal value. This role serves as the primary point of contact with the Alliance Partner and works with the Alliance Leadership Team to define and achieve the strategic and financial objectives of the Alliance. This person facilitates the flow of information and promotes communication, coordination and collaboration between the Alliance Partners to maximize the efficiency of the collaboration while managing the day-to-day operations of the Alliance.


  • Inform, influence and drive decisions within the governance of assigned alliance partnerships in research, development and commercialization partnerships. This includes managing governance committees, identifying key issues and driving solutions Monitor implementation of and adherence to agreed-upon research, development and commercialization plans; take appropriate action to ensure execution.
  • Compliance/contract management - liaise with Legal, Finance, R&D, Commercial and other functions to ensure that key contract milestones, financial transactions, progress reports, etc. are handled appropriately and also to provide information/updates as needed.
  • Work directly with the Alliance Partner to set the direction and scope for launch and implementation of partnership agreement: key activities, timing and responsibilities on either side and timely decision making.
  • Issue management and resolution - address hot topic issues that require immediate attention while working to minimize crisis management situations
  • Continuously monitor the health of the Alliance(s)


  • Conduct regular reviews/meetings with Senior Management and other functions as appropriate to communicate key issues, milestones, etc. and gather feedback
  • Provide guidance regarding the letter and spirit of collaboration agreements to internal teams
  • Prepares the Pfizer Alliance Leadership Team for governance committee meetings, including creating agendas, holding internal alignment meetings, coordinating slide creation, and recording minutes and action items.
  • Become Pfizer "internal expert" on partner company, including expertise about company organization/leadership, strategies, financials, priorities, etc.
  • Lead and/or participate in contract renegotiations as appropriate
  • Participate in review of new partner contract negotiations as appropriate and provide input into partnership execution terms of the contract, in particular governance structures and processes
  • Point of contact for Functional SMEs with partner; interact with Business Development on post deal valuation assessments


  • Participate in alliance management group meetings to review progress and issues and share best practices
  • Develop and/or regularly update new alliance management tools, databases and collaboration folders/systems to ensure effective communication and reference across Pfizer Internal Medicine Alliances.
  • Communication/reporting to leadership
  • Share alliance management practices across PPM and broader organization
  • Partners closely with Asset PMs and Cross-Functional Team Leaders
  • May work on out-licensing deals or BD assessments


  • Advanced degree in a field relevant to a profession in the biopharmaceutical industry; MBA is a plus but not required
  • Minimum of 10 years broad-based pharmaceutical experience (i.e. R&D, marketing, business development, projectmanagement, etc.); Internal Medicine experience is beneficial
  • Experience working on pharmaceutical alliances or as an Alliance Manager is required
  • Experience working with business development and alliances developing contracts, negotiating terms and mediating and resolving disputes
  • Experience facilitating and coordinating joint senior executive steering committee meetings
  • Demonstrated technical skills showing deep understanding of, or experience working with a broad range of functions including Commercial, Business Development, R&D, Finance and Legal.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide strategic and organizational support to R&D teams
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage internal and external team members and organize teams
  • Exposure to contractual,financial, and clinical development risks within an Alliance would be advantageous

Occasional travel (domestic and international) may be required for Alliance Partner engagements (e.g., face-to-face Governance meetings, Alliance kick-off meetings, Congresses, etc.).

The Alliance Manager will work closely with senior executives, commercial and development leads, project managers, and functional leads from both Pfizer and the partner company. On large scale alliances there may be several dozen leaders and colleagues in commercial, development, supply and regulatory who look to the alliance manager for coordination and leadership.
