Description:
Seeking an experienced patent agent to join Inozyme’s growing legal team. The candidate will help build the Company’s intellectual property portfolio and contribute to its global patent strategy. Successful candidates should have demonstrable skills in evaluating and identifying new discoveries and leading the effort from initial filings on such discoveries to worldwide patent issuance. Candidates will preferably have a strong understanding of U.S. and foreign patent systems, including patent filing and prosecution processes, innovations review, patent searching, and landscape assessments. This role will report to the company’s VP, Legal Affairs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the research and development teams to identify new inventions and draft, file, and prosecute patent applications covering such inventions
- Manage, in a cost-efficient way, outside counsel with respect to patent prosecution and maintenance
- Contribute to development and evaluation of intellectual property strategy
- Contribute to IP due diligence for potential in-licensing opportunities
- Conduct landscape and third-party portfolio assessments
- Review proposed publications and presentations for IP impact
- Provide counseling on patent and related IP matters to the research team
- Present tutorials/seminars to the Company about intellectual property
Education/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences (immunology, molecular biology, etc.); advanced degree(s) desirable
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of IP experience in-house at a biotech or pharma company and/or at a law firm
- Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Demonstrated ability to grasp scientific and technical concepts quickly
- Ability to collaborate, work independently, and balance competing priorities with a high level of professionalism and with the ability to reprioritize quickly and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent writing and analytical skills; ability to provide IP advice in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing
