DIRECTOR, GLOBAL MARKET ACCESS (Remote)

Position Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. (GBT) is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development and delivery of life-changing treatments that provide hope to underserved patient communities. Founded in 2011, GBT is delivering on its goal to transform the treatment and care of sickle cell disease (SCD), a lifelong, devastating inherited blood disorder. The company has introduced Oxbryta® (voxelotor), the first FDA-approved treatment that directly inhibits sickle hemoglobin polymerization, an underlying cause of SCD. GBT is also advancing its pipeline program in SCD with inclacumab, a p-selectin inhibitor in development to address pain crises associated with the disease. In addition, GBT’s drug discovery teams are working on new targets to develop the next generation of treatments for SCD. We are currently expanding our geographic footprint to countries outside of the United States.

This position will report to the VP of Global Commercial Strategy and will be focused on leading the global market access strategies for GBT portfolio (in-line product and pipeline) that inform geographic expansion, lifecycle and development decisions.  This key role will partner closely with regional market access leads and functional partners such as Global Medical Lead, Global HEOR, Clinical Development, Marketing, and Market Insights & Analytics. 

The preference is to seek a local candidate who can work interchangeably 1-3 days in the HQ office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and lead global market access strategies to inform, support, and maximize commercialization activities including pricing, access, reimbursement, and uptake throughout the lifecycle of GBT molecules
  • Ensure buy-in and alignment of asset level key market access strategies from the regions with endorsement from appropriate governing bodies such as Commercial Committee or Global Pricing Committee
  • Lead development of asset level value story in support of positioning, leverages data to create messaging and reasons to be that resonates with payers/stakeholders across geographies
  • Lead and conduct primary and secondary payer/HTA research to inform global access strategies, create reimbursement dossiers, and scenario planning on access objections and outcomes
  • Lead development of core reimbursement dossiers and payer materials for use with select country’s customer facing teams
  • Accountable for creation of global value dossier for clinical stage molecules that can be adapted for key markets
  • In partnership with other functions, leverage various strategies such as real-world evidence, expanded access programs, advocacy, etc to achieve favorable reimbursement decisions that optimize both patient access and financial sustainability
  • Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders on integrating asset-level market access strategies into portfolio level strategies
  • Proactively monitor and evaluate key trends and issues in pricing, international price referencing and market access in key markets
  • Collaborate with Global Medical Affairs, Global HEOR, and Clinical Development to plan for evidence generation that enables access
  • Identify and manage outside vendors and budget

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS, advanced degree strongly preferred (PhD, MPH, MD, MBA, MS) with a minimum of 9 -14 years of relevant industry experience (or 10 years with advanced degree) in pipeline and marketed products with roles in market access, payer marketing, HEOR or global commercial planning
  • 4+ years of experience leading teams and/or managing people (i.e., employees, contractors) desired for leadership positions
  • Established history of forging strong relationships with regional access, brand, medical affairs, and HEOR
  • Solid understanding of pricing, reimbursement, and health technology assessment processes in key markets (US, Europe, Canada, LATAM, Asia) with specific preference for experience in LATAM and Canada
  • Proven ability to navigate complex situations, gather insights, think strategically, provide analytical support, and make sound recommendations with appropriate stakeholder buy-in
  • Global experience required
  • Strong project management skills with oversight experience in both internal and external projects are necessary; demonstrated multitasking, time management skills and experience completing projects on budget
  • Strong and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability in influencing or leading cross-functional teams, excellent skills in leading independently, and negotiating and managing through influence
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills and previous experience in managing executive presentations related to strategy and execution
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant clinical and therapeutic issues in rare disease or hematology
  • Thrives in entrepreneurial, unstructured environment
