JOB SUMMARY:   

The Director of Operational Effectiveness is accountable all aspects of process excellence and continuous improvement within Sangamo’s Technical Operations. This position is responsible for identifying and executing on continuous improvement activities, leading cross-functional process improvement initiatives, and managing vendors and team members to ensure timely and efficient execution of department and company objectives. A successful candidate will have demonstrated strong stakeholder management at all levels of the organization (floor operations to C-suite) and the ability to build organizational awareness and muscle in lean operations. This position represents Tech Ops on the enterprise-wide IT Council and enjoys rolling up their sleeves to execute on specific projects, as well as develop strategy as a company CI thought-leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Identifies and leads critical operational effectiveness initiatives that impact the overall supply chain, Tech Ops and other functions within Sangamo. Scope to include projects such as:
    • New Clinical and Commercial Program/Product Introductions - integrating with CMC Project Management, Core Teams, Commercial
    • Manufacturing facility start-ups – integrating with CMC Project Management, Internal Manufacturing
    • Facilities expansions, redesigns, and reallocations
    • Optimization of new and existing processes and systems
  • Identifies new Business Process Design initiatives – RACI, Swim lanes, Process Audits/enhancements – integrating across the enterprise as needed. Reviews and updates existing designs and practices, engaging stakeholders in the change management process
  • Owner of and responsible for the continuing evolution and implementation of the Tech Ops IT Roadmap, with partners from across the Tech Ops organization, as well as IT, Finance, Clinical Operations, and others
  • Accountable for developing and executing on a portfolio of projects and broader CI initiatives across Tech Ops
  • Responsible for setting and managing to a budget for key process excellence activities and for developing regular reporting to leadership on CI opportunities and progress
  • Develop staff and systems and provide training to strengthen CI capabilities in alignment with company growth

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business/Operations Management, or Chemistry, Pharmacy or equivalent life science field; a secondary degree or certification related to Supply Chain Management, or a MBA is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in the biotechnology or pharma clinical or commercial environments and 10 years in continuous improvement and process excellence; formal training in lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is a plus
  • Strong familiarity with FDA, ISO, EMA, GMP, and ICH regulations
  • Operational experience in the planning and/or manufacturing of bio products
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and Vendor Management skills, having effectively developed, communicated, and gained support for execution of plans with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with typical Tech Ops IT architectures, cross/multi-departmental systems, and vendors
  • Superior ability to influence, facilitate, analyze, and anticipate complex needs and systems across the enterprise

  • Strong focus on doing what’s right for the patient, always
  • Collaborative, problem solving mindset with excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment that will require management of several competing priorities while driving all projects forward and meeting program/project deliverables
  • Experience influencing and/or managing others in a high functioning/performing team and collaborating across departments and functions
