Job Summary

Reporting to the CHRO, this role will manage all facility infrastructure requirements for Avidity Biosciences, including research, development, and business management. The Facilities Manager will ensure all Avidity Biosciences facilities are operational and maintained to support laboratories, service rooms, special purpose areas, and critical equipment needs to support a fast-paced R&D and business organization. The successful candidate will drive new facility startup objectives and long-term operation goals to maintain flexible, responsive, and reliable facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all maintenance of physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, and plumbing of Avidity sites
  • Plan and coordinate tenant improvements with property management and all departments for operational needs and growth.
  • Partner with colleagues to ensure required laboratory infrastructure uptime through scheduled equipment maintenance and repair
  • Lead and provide hands on resolution for the operations, maintenance, and repair of facility support systems in a safe and expeditious manner
  • Partner with EHS to initiate and influence integration of Safety/Facility policies and practices
  • Ensure facilities compliance by maintaining up-to-date records for all Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
  • Partner with R&D colleagues to implement and manage execution for calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, utilities (including compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, etc.)
  • Define and manage external supplier relationships and site support services as well as protocols for all vendor services
  • Perform procurement activities to include pre-qualification, negotiating facilities supplier agreements, preparation of contracts and management of related services
  • Serve as primary point of contact and provide support (including after hours) during emergencies/disasters and projects requiring non-business hours supervision/coordination
  • Provide cross functional support to Operations team when needed (e.g., shipping and receiving)
  • Plan and manage facilities related budgets
  • Hire, train, mentor, and develop Facilities team members
  • Establish goals and deadlines for the department to maintain operational objectives
  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations

 

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience required
  • At least 5+ years of facility infrastructure and operations management experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry with experience supporting multiple functional areas
  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated skills, abilities and/or experience of training in repair, operation, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical process equipment and utility systems.
  • Experience with a variety of control systems, PLC’s, SCADA, and BMS systems strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in cross functional teams, in a fast paced, dynamic team environment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance and operation instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Must be able to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast paced, and dynamic work environment 
  • Must be organized with strong oral and written communication skills
