We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we’ll develop for a range of severe diseases. By employing a flexible business model, we aim to unlock the value of our Compass platform by translating as many genetic insights into new therapies for patients as possible.

We are seeking a seasoned business development leader with experience leading various transaction types for a biotech/pharma company, preferably a company in growth mode. The Vice President will proactively identify and execute partnerships that provide non-dilutive funding, and potentially in-license research and development programs, that help evolve the platform and portfolio in alignment with strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong financial and/or analytics background to lead discussions and the ability to build and nurture an expansive network of decision makers across the biopharma landscape.

Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, the Business Development Leader will play a key role in the company’s success. The ability to partner with R&D and business leadership will allow the successful candidate to execute and structure transactions.

Your Role in Navigating the Maze

  • Lead business development strategy and activities with a high focus on driving transactions for key alliances, corporate partnerships, in and out licensing agreements
  • Proactively Identify identify future opportunities and have an intricate understanding of the commercial and research landscape in order to capitalize on opportunities
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and scientists to ensure that emerging options for our programs have rigorous foundation and are feasible to align with corporate goals
  • Lead sourcing, diligence, transaction execution focused on in and out licensing
  • Guide stakeholders through value proposition, risks, analytics and forecasting related to business development opportunities
  • Stay informed and communicate to stakeholders around broader partnering landscape and deal comparables
  • Hold accountability for high-value transactions and partnering with legal, finance, IR
  • Be a strong advocate and role model of our corporate values with a collaborative approach, high integrity and an impact focused motivation

Your Navigation Tools:

  • 8+ years relevant experience in a business development and/or corporate strategy role; advanced degree (PhD, MBA, PharmD) is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in a business development role focused on identifying, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions
  • Extensive experience in deal structure development, licensing partnership structuring, collaboration agreements negotiations, financial analyses, technical communication, transaction process management and project management
  • Thorough scientific understanding of the full drug development process, life-cycle management, and commercialization of therapeutics
  • Ability to partner with and influence scientific research and development leaders to understand opportunities
  • Significant expertise in the biotechnology landscape and a thorough understanding of competitive intelligence
  • Keen ability to collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., legal, finance) to manage contract negotiation and fulfilment of obligations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth company environment
  • Demonstrated corporate acumen with the ability to effectively negotiate complex partner deals and relay information to internal teams
  • Experience assessing programs for commercial potential, communicating pros and cons of different opportunities and managing both current transactions and discussions to support future transactions
  • A professional, impact focused disposition with the ability to leverage analytics to convey important information
  • Mentorship of business development leads and experience shaping cross-functional business teams
  • Ability to travel as needed for execution of transaction or prospecting new opportunities
