We are currently searching for an Upstream Process Development Associate to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is onsite in Bethesda, MD.

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support vaccine development initiatives, including the production of vaccines for Phase 1 and 2 vaccine trials.
  • Involved in the development of scalable fermentation and purification processes for production of recombinant malaria antigens produced by Escherichia coli or Pichia pastoris.
  • Small-scale and pilot-scale (60L) fermentation development.
  • Analysis of approaches for harvesting, purification development of scalable procedures
  • Support to the analytical effort.
  • Other duties include preparing various media, buffers, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory.

Requirements
  • B.S. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field and three or more years of related experience, or an M.S. degree in a similar field with one or more years of related experience. 
  • Knowledge of current Good Laboratory Practices and current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Knowledge of FDA drug approval process\
  • Experience preparing laboratory protocols
  • Experience with vaccine research and development preferred\
  • Experience using New Brunswick fermenters, Akta Explorers and/or Pilot, or equivalent equipment is essential. 
  • Experience with Western blotting procedures, endotoxin testing and other HPLC/UPLC methods would be an advantage.  
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and graphics programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
