We are currently searching for a Scientific Policy Analyst to support the objectives of the Translational Blood Science & Resources Branch (TBSRB). This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD and/or remote work.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff in the TBSRB, DBDR and as instructed, with staff from other NHLBI Divisions and Offices on general scientific issues related to the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Initiative with active participation in the research agendas.
  • Perform analysis and prepare reports to assess the effectiveness of programs.
  • Communicate orally and in writing in a clear, accurate, organized, and concise manner.
  • Properly interpret and provide technical advice and timely summaries of relevant clinical and scientific information, as well as policies related to the Cure Sickle Cell initiative.
  • Support the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Cure Sickle Cell scientific programs and activities.
  • Advise the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Initiative Program Team of unique conditions and issues which affect scientific and administrative functions.
  • Assist staff with the preparation of scientific talks and presentations.
  • Prepare, present, and disseminate information about the scientific landscape of gene therapy and gene editing studies in sickle cell patients, advances and changes in biomanufacturing and clinical trial design related to these studies, patient engagement, and clinical trial recruitment.
  • Assists in other NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Initiative program-related activities
  • Actively engage colleagues and TBSRB leadership on topics/assignments, and proactively identify new topics and strategies relevant to achieving the goals of the team in support of the Cure Sickle Cell initiative.
  • Facilitate communication with respect to goals of the overall program among other Federal agencies and Cure Sickle Cell Initiative Partners such as the American Society of Hematology, biomedical industry, and patient stakeholder groups.
  • Assist staff with the development and coordination of working groups and meetings, including team meetings.
  • Coordinate with Office of Management (OM) offices (e.g., PMO, OT) to provide scientific progress updates towards program milestones and objectives, providing input and programmatic perspective on budgetary needs/projections and emerging risks/issues.
  • Facilitate communications and collaborations between the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Initiative team and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) in regard to co-funded projects.
  • Facilitate communication among the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Clinical Trial Platform, the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Biomanufacturing Core, the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Data Consortium, the NHLBI Cure Sickle Cell Program Team, NHLBI staff, and NHLBI leadership by providing information about the overall program and serving as a resource for general inquiries.

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in a science-related discipline or field. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in relevant field.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a teamwork mind-set.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
